Default Portage Lake walleye????

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything on walleye on portage/torch lake. Was out this weekend and struck out. Marked a lot of fish but nothing would bite. Was some other boats out but were few and far between. Any help would be much appriciated.

I don't know where you were fishing or how but I was out Saturday and it was a bit tough going. I managed to get a few walleyes on a jig/minnow, as well as the usual pike bite-offs and smallmouth. Seemed the bite was getting better just prior to me having to head for home in the mid-afternoon. I don't know how the crankbait bite is going. The big smallies are pretty aggressive now and you can hammer 'em if you find 'em. It was cold out there, I know that. Doesn't look like the weather is going to help us out either, snow, wind and cold temps are predicted thru the weekend. I bet it was good the last 2 days but I had to work.

Hey thanks for the reply. I think I talked to last year at this time. It seems that the bite always gets slow on Portage in the fall where as other places it is the best all year. I was out this weekend and fished the shoals towards dreamland and the humps down at the southend. We mainly trolled with large chubs and cranks all day in anywhere from 20-35 feet. Also some casting in 10-15. We marked fish near the bottom in about 30 feet. May try to do some jigging this weekend over where we marked fish. What depth did you get the eyes? use chubs?

I thought this was the best late fall bite I have had in a few years, because the water temp fell quickly into the low 40's. Last year at this time the temp was low 50's and the fish were still scattered.

The fish I have found are on very small spots, like inside turns, points, deep rocks and steep drops, the usual classic late fall walleye spots and the usual tactics like rigging and jigging work for me.

Unfortunately, it looks like winter may be here to stay, there has been crazy winds the last 2 days, some snow and more predicted. May be time to winterize the outboard and button things up until hard water.
