Just a heads up for anyone thinking about coming to Little Bay de Noc in the near future. As of right now, the fishing is holding up pretty good. Still lots of fish in the northern half of the bay from Gladstone north. We have had a few Mayfly hatches. But like usual, not affecting the bite too much. Alewives have been spotted. But so far, not in any real great numbers. And even if we have an Alewive invasion, it probably will not last long with the quickly rising water temperatures. Which as of today was 76 degrees on the north end of Little Bay. And the coldest temp. observed today on Big Bay by a friend of mine was 69. All ten keepers on my brother's charter today came from the north end in the 76 degree water. But it took a good chop on the water to get the keepers to bite. When it was flat calm in the morning, just the throwbacks would bite (about 35). Anyway, if anyone wants to call or e-mail us for the latest, don't hesitate. If the bite stinks, that's what we'll tell you! But right now, it is good...

Oops... Guess I should have put those two things on there. You can e-mail us at kenandkevinlee@chartermi.net or call us at 906-474-6918. My brother's charter yesterday was more of a learning experience for the two guys he took out. Kenneth showed them several good areas as well as how to troll with leadcore and cranks for bigger fish. Had they stayed with the "eater" pattern, they would have had their limit as they had 6 keepers before switching gears and heading to deeper water and bigger fish. The big fish were not as cooperative though as they only caught one more about 22 inches. Kenneth said they also lost a nice one he figures was about 9 pounds. Todays trip was shortened by high winds but they still brought back 6 keepers today on what turned into a five hour trip. They also caught 20-25 throwbacks. The fish today were just good "eaters" of 16-19 inches. Yesterday's fish averaged about 22 inches. Still nice eaters. But a little bigger on average than todays fish. There have been two distinct colors on the Walleye's Choice spinners Kenneth uses that have been the best so far this year. And those are I-42 and I-62. Yesterday, I-62 was best. Today it was I-42. All the fish on his charters are still coming from the far north end of the bay unless he specifically goes for big fish. In which case you want to fish south of Gladstone. Good luck on the water...

How far are you from the soo? I'm going to have the family up july 3-5 and I'm not familiar with the area?
Have you tried small cranks like reefrunner deep little rippers? We've been killing'em with them on erie the past month( 6-3 man limits in 6 days in under 3 hrs after sorting twice as many with very little trash). It sounds like the bay is only a week or so behind the western basin of Erie. |

Little Bay de Noc is about 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 hours from the the Soo. I have never fished much at the Soo. But spent lots of time on Munuscong Bay in the late 80's and early 90's. With the low water levels, I'm wondering just far into Munuscong Bay a guy can get? Have also fished the Tahquamenon River a little bit which is east of the Soo. There are some huge walleye in that river. As well as mongo sized Muskie. And if you haven't seen the Tahquamenon Falls, they are only about an hour east of the Soo and totally awesome. They hold a sweet spot in my heart as I caught my first Muskie just below the falls casting from shore. Good luck on your trip...
