I'm new to this site and fishing Lake Erie in general..... I have a 16 ft Lund and this is the first year I've had it on Erie. We did well in spring jig fishing in Michigan waters with limits most trips. I have vacation time scheduled for the last week of Sept., last week of Oct., and the last week of Nov...... I've had a goal for some time to catch a walleye over 10lbs for the wall and figure Erie will be my best bet.... Any words of wisdom from those who could help would be greatly appreciated. Western or Central basins?

As I'm sure you know, with a boat that size, your days will be limited by the weather.
I would start around Ruggles Reef (on top of it), and zig zag cranks (Reef Runners & Husky Jerks, both shallow runners and deep runners) from the center of the reef to the north edge of it and out into the deeper water to about 35 FOW. You'll only be about a mile and a half to two miles from the safety of Cranberry Creek if the weather turns for the worse. If your efforts there prove fruitless, move closer to shore and troll west towards the Huron River, then move out to the Huron Dumping grounds. Once you get to the Dumping Grounds, switch a rod or two over to spoons, and see what they want, and adjust accordingly. |

Make sure you have carharts/rain gear or gortex to stay warm and dry. It can get awful chilly with the slightest breeze, or a lull in the action.

For fishing Huron River, Cranberry Creek, or Vermilion Areas the best place to stay I have found in 31 years of traveling up to Erie is the Plantation Motel. Ask for Todd. He has the best rates, best fish cleaning facilities and overall fishing fellowship atmosphere on the Lake. 419-366-2700 or www.plantationmotel.com The fall days are indeed the GLORY days and Huron / Vermilion is the place to be as the fellows stated. The perchin is also world class and 25 to 25 FOW right out front can be red hot. The guys here at Walleye Central are always willing to help out. Good Luck Kramer |

Hey J-Fish:
Just "Ignore the Ignorant"!!!!!!! For anyone looking for a trophy Walleye, best time of the year is end of November through December, end the best location is the southern shores of Lake Erie from Sandusky to East Lake, and maybe even further east. The fish are tight against the shoreline, you can catch them casting or trolling long stickbaits, Renoskys being my favorites. The fish have been feeding heavy, and are still feeding heavy, and are fat for the winter, plus the females have partially developed eggs that can add another one to two pounds to the fish. Unfortunately, you will have to deal with a lot of Jackasses. They are easy to figure out, they are the ones who wold give everyone a “play by play” on the radio, all night long, about every fish they catch when they do, like they own it or the lake, or cry and blame everything else but themselves when they don’t. Best one ever is: “ Hey “so&so” call me on my cell phone”, someone needs to tell them that they can dial out also!?!!?? You will deal with these characters weather your on the rocks or in a boat, weather there are five boats or 100! You will find them in Sandusky, Huron, Vermilion, Lorain, CLEVELAND, Neff, East Lake, and so on. You find them fishing, at work, and wherever you might associate with groups of people, under any circumstances. So the best thing is to ignore them. No, I did not write this in response to the idiots, it’ll be a waste of time. I responded to those of you who do this from the goodness of your hearts, because you enjoy what you do, and enjoy to share information and help each other. JUST IGNORE THEM!!!! I know all too well that at times these idiots can get you mad and ready to just quit this all together. All I can say is this: Through this I’ve met hundreds of GOOD PEOPLE, who are honorable, upstanding, giving, who posses so many good qualities, and with some of whom I’ve became great friends, that I would deal with 100 times more of this idiots if I’d have to. SO JUST KEEP ON POSTING!!!!! THE NIGHT BITE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!! AND WE HAVE A LOT OF POSTING TO DO!!!!!!!!!! AND DON’T FORGET THE PICTURES!!!!! Tight Lines! FishCrazy: Virgil |
