If you are a fan of fishing for walleye (pickerel) then you've probably heard about the great fall fishing in Pine Falls, Manitoba. Every year those big predators that roam the waters of Lake Winnipeg move into the Winnipeg River where many will stay all winter long. The stretch of river from Traverse Bay at the mouth to the Powerview Dam just upstream from Pine Falls is where you find yourselves angling for the top spot after a weekend of heavy hitting from master-angler walleyes, locally known as greenbacks, at the Pine Falls International Walleye Classic!

Our Fifth Annual Fishing Tournament runs October 10, 11, 12th, 1998

Each year the The St. Georges Voyageur's Hockey Team organizes a fund-raising event what is now known as the Pine Falls International Walleye Classic. Over the years, it has grown to included an enthusiastic following who know that this is the place to catch the big one. Last year, 123 boats participated in a two day walleye fishing tournament hoping to land those top eight fish weighed in from each boat. First place went to Les Morez and Palz Birty with a final weight of 61.29 pounds, three of them were over ten pounds!

Tournament Profile

As in past years, our fifth annual fishing tournament held on Canada's Thanksgiving Day weekend. Prizes awarded in 1995 totaled $20,000.00, in 1996 totaled $25,000.00, and last year on Oct. 13, 1997, $34,000.00 in prizes were awarded. First place included a new Lund Pro V with a 60 h.p. tiller-driven Evinrude outboard. Four fish per boat are weighed in each day and the two day total determines the placing. Once weighed, the fish are tagged and then transported above the Powerview dam where we have been releasing every catch for the last three years.
