The "High Desert Marine Walleye Derby" was held July 8th and 9th in Boardman Oregon. With perfect weather on Saturday and high winds on Sunday, forty-two teams gave it there best. Despite the high winds the fish cooperated and new records were set. 

Each tournament is entered as a two-person team. Each team is able to weigh in up to six walleye. Only two of the fish may be over twenty-four inches. Prizes are based on total weights for the weekend and for the biggest fish caught each day.

This walleye derby is the second tournament in the Columbia River Walleye Circuit. The first tournament was held March 25th and 26th in Irrigon, The Smoker Craft Sylvan Spring Walleye Classic. The third and final tournament in the circuit will be held Labor Day weekend in Umatilla, The Oregon Governor's Cup. Each team is awarded points for the position they finish in. At the Governor's Cup a "Fisherman of the Year" will be named, and will earn a $2000 bonus.

This year the team of Bob Crow and Kimo Gabriel set a new record for the heaviest total weight ever weighed in in a CRWC tournament. The new record weight for the heaviest total weight ever caught will stand at 63.76 pounds! Last year the father and son team, Steve and Mat Hockaday of Pasco won with a total weight of 40.46 pounds.

Saturday 65 walleye were caught. The total weight was 293.15#. The average wt 4.51#

Sunday 50 walleye were caught. The total weight was 240.52#/ The average wt 4.81#
