Pool 11 Guttenberg IA.
Water level 5.7 Water temp 32 degrees
Right now the only open water at this dam is accessible only by pushing small boats across ice then navigating thru a floating field of ice bergs. This is very tricky
business and should only be done by those with plenty of experience under their belts. In my opinion it also should only be done as a team, not individually! Those that
are venturing out are getting some respectable saugers with a few legal walleyes as a bonus. They are coming off the end of the short guide wall. With all the warm
weather we've had It shouldn't take to much longer before the D.N.R. boat landing behind the long guide wall will be accusable to small Jon and V bottom boats. The only
ice bite I am aware of for panfish is on Lake Bussey. As usual for this time of the year the best bite is the first and last hour of light. The best jig around is the MINI
MERT, in blues, chars or black. I have heard nothing of tip-up bites for northern or bass in this area.
Pool 10 Lynxville WI.
Water level 8.15 Water temp 32 degrees
People have been fishing below the long guide wall at this dam. The bite has been very inconsistent the past 10 or so days. When they do go on a bite one time they
want bucktail and the next round you may need plastic. Darker colors have been the better choices lately. A few guy have also been getting some respectable sized
saugers on blade baits in the last couple of days. At the end of the long wall, there are 2 pressure cracks growing in size daily so be very careful when fishing close to
them. Some of the guys had been walking up to the short wall and fishing the rock pile. But with the warm weather we've had lately I would strongly suggest not trying
this!!! It's quite a distance down to the public boat ramp here so I expect it to be awhile before this dam becomes accessible to
boats on trailers. As far as ice fishing goes,
the Bagley bottoms, the Upper doubles, Mud hen and Sleeping pond ( the last 2 only accessible by air boat or hover craft). Again all of these lakes are producing a
descent bite the first and last parts of the day. I was told that a couple guys ran some tip-ups on Gremore lake and pulled some descent bass on golden
shiners, but I
can't verify this as a fact.
Pool 9 Genoa WI.
Water level 8.0 Water temp 32 degrees
The Genoa boat landing is open for smaller boats. A 4 wheel drive is a must as you have to back your boat off the side of the ramp on a sand bar to launch. There is
open water from the power plant down to Victory. It wouldn't surprise me if it's open all the way down to Blackhawk park by now. There are alot of small fish in the hole by
the plant. I didn't see anyone catch a legal fish when we were up there. We concentrated from the mouth of Thief slough down to Victory. We managed to catch 3 legal
walleyes. All came off 1/16 jigs with a firecracker R.W. But bites were few and far between. Pertaining to ice fishing, the upper and middle parts of
Desoto bay. The
Dredge hole on the Lansing dike, Botsford, and Cold springs all have the same bite going on as listed in the above reports.
Just a little food for thought here pertaining to the ice fisherman. With all the snow we had here this year the ice has been very inconsistent. Now that were getting a
little taste of Spring, please be extra careful and use the buddy system when venturing out to new spots. I personally know of several different people that have stuck a
leg, both legs and even A.T.V.'s in the frozen water up here.
Take care and Hang a Wall Hanger.
