PWT Pros Begin Unlocking
Lake of the Woods Secrets

Baudette, MN....In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) anglers headed onto Lake of the Woods today and scattered to all corners of the large lake at the Pinnacle Central Pro-Am.

June 1, 2000 Two-Time PWT Winner Pete Harsh Leads Lake of the Woods Tournament

Baudette, MN. Pete Harsh, two-time In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) winner moved into first place with the largest catch of the Pinnacle Central Pro-Am today. Harsh, from Sauk Centre, MN, and his amateur Jim Muzynoski, Bozeman, MT, weighed 20.46 pounds.

Included in their catch was the largest walleye of the tournament, landed by Muzynoski. The 10.44-pounder was also the Bass Pro Shops first place daily fish worth $2,000.

Taking over second place was pro Dave Randash, Dilworth, MN, with 28.12 pounds. First day leader Gerrick McComsey, Ft. Pierre, SD brought 9.30 pounds to the scale and dropped to fourth place. Leading the amateur field is Muzynoski with 33.22 pounds.

The overall catch was reduced as Lake of the Woods showed a different mood with northeast winds blowing up to 20 mph. Waves on parts of the lake reached to six feet, but anglers negotiated the weather and hugged lee shores whenever possible. Some fished the bays and the river. Day two limits totaled 11 compared to 53 on day one.

Favored tactics included bottom bouncers and spinners with night crawlers. Rigging with leeches was also popular. Walleyes were on rocks in the 9 to 15 foot depths. Some fishing also occurred on the deep points where rock reefs dropped into the main lake basin.

Other Bass Pro Shops Big Fish awards went to amateur Kevin Brown, Motley, MN. His 7.57-pounder paid $1,200. Third and $1,025 went to pro Gary Parsons, Glidden, WI with a 7.42 pound walleye. Amateur Steve Semenchuk, Duluth, MN earned $950 for a 7.41 pound fish.

Anglers compete for three days in the cumulative-weight PWT tournaments; amateurs learning and fishing with three professional walleye anglers. The total purse, $225,000, will be distributed immediately following the free weigh-in festivities Friday at Wheeler’s Point, north of Baudette. PWT headquarters are located between the launch ramp and Border View Lodge.

The Pinnacle $25,000 Bounty for a new PWT big fish record is still posted for the final day.
