North Central Montana

If you are planning on visiting (fishing) north central Montana?
Give myself, Ed, or my son, Reggie, a call, or e-mail, for the latest fishing report.

Lake Frances: The water level is down significantly because of heavy irrigation. The only usable boat launch is at the "East Dam". Fishing for "walleye" has been good. Both spinners and jigs are catching fish. Several large "pike" have been caught in shallow- weedy areas. Surface water temperature is 60° f. Water clarity is limited due to recent rain and cold fronts with wind.

Tiber Reservoir: The reservoir is at full-pool due to recent higher flows on the Marias River. All boat launches are usable. The Marina is open, with all services. Fishing has been fair to good. You still need to use your electronics to find the "walleye". Both "pike" and "trout" fishing have been good. Surface water temperature is 61.5° f. Water clarity is limited. Most access roads are good. Recent rains have made certain campsites "risky" to use. The Great Falls Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited will be holding their annual tournament - June 27th & 28th. The "Tiber" Marina will sponsor a Labor Day tournament.

Bynum Reservoir: Water levels are low. Construction is underway around the boat launch. New bathrooms, graveling, and camp sites are slated. The access road to Bynum is in excellent driving condition. Fishing reports have been non-existent.

Summer fishing conditions are fast approaching "North Central" Montana. I recently spent a week fishing "Fresno Reservoir" near Havre. Fishing was great, even-though weather conditions limited the number of hours on the water. My son "Reggie" and I managed to catch several "walleye" and a few "sauger". The "knats" made camping an adventure. Hopefully, the hatch will soon be over. Phone: 1-(406) 949-3741
