The West Michigan Walleye Club was started about four years ago by thefather/son team of Ron and Joe Lockman. By their initiative, and an ableBoard of Directors, we now have an active membership of 250. The goal of theclub is education. We hold seven tournaments around the state of Michiganfor club points only (no cash involved). Out tournament sites include theDetroit River, Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay, Muskegon Lake, Grand River, MuskegonRiver impoundment at Hardy Dam, and any other site that the membership voteson yearly. Turnout at the tournaments is now in the neighborhood of 50boats. We hold a monthly meeting, 3rd Monday of the month, at St. JohnVianny Church. The emphasis of the meeting is education on how thetournament winners fished....where, how, etc. During the winter months weinvite local pros, fishing tackle representatives, state fisheries people, etc. We recently completed a marketing survey of the membership to "count thetill". The results were suprising. For instance, members own over 3 milliondollars worth of boats/motors/trailers; $250,000 worth of rods, reel, lures, ....and so forth. For more info contact: Bill Butts |
