Washington State Walleye
Circuit
Well after the first three events the
Inaugural Washington State Walleye Circuit is off and running. The WSWC it
sponsored by Walleye Central.
The first event of the year was the Big
Wally’s Spring Classic, held May 20 and 21st on Banks Lake. The
tournament headquarters was at Coulee City Park at the south end of the 33-mile
long lake. The weather was good this year as John Carruth of Davenport, WA and
Ken Loper of Rathdrum, ID scored big weighing in 34.8 pounds of walleye to take
home first place in the Classic and help them grab the early lead in the
circuit.
Up next was the Moses Lake Walleye
Derby, held June 5th and 6th on Moses Lake. The tournament
headquarters was at Cascade Park. Ray Roeder and Scott Berdan of Moses Lake, WA
weighed in 23.6 pounds to win the event. The leaders in the WSWC after the 2nd
of 5 events were Mike Ott and Mike Curtiss of Moses Lake, WA. Ott and Curtiss
had a 3rd place finish at Banks Lake and followed that up with a 13th
place finish at Moses Lake giving them the lead in the WSWC after two events.
The Washington Governor’s Cup was the
third event of the year. The Governor’s Cup was held June 24th and
25th on Lake Roosevelt, with the tournament headquarters at Kettle
Falls. Royce Drye of Spokane, WA and his partner Don Talbot of Wenatchee hauled
in 55.2 pounds of walleye to capture first place. Ott and Curtiss had another
solid outing placing 21st good enough to retain first place in the
WSWC.
Two tournaments remain in the WSWC. The
Rod Meseberg Fall Walleye Classic on September 16th and 17th
is the next in line. This tournament is held on Potholes Reservoir with the
headquarters/launch site at Mar Don Resort. This will be an exciting tournament
as teams position themselves.
The last event is the Fall Classic
Walleye Derby September 23rd and 24th on the Columbia
River. The tournament launch site it the Port of Camas/Washougal.
Points are awarded as follows 100
points for 1st place, 95 for 2nd down to 30 points for 15
place. All remaining teams receive at least 25 points. Bonus points are awarded
for the weight of their catch at each tournament.
