I have been looking at new and used though I would prefer used. I have 2 that I like. First is a 2020 Crestliner 1450 SC with a 40 hp Mercury and Minn Kota Terrova priced at $1300. It has 10 hours on it and looks showroom new. The second is a 2021 Lund Fury 1600 with 40 hp Mercury and Minn Kota Powerdrive without I pilot. 3 hours on the boat and looks show room new. I really want I pilot and could change it out. They want $16,000 for it. I have priced a new Fury 1600 and a new Smokercraft Angler 16. Would really like to go used and really like the idea of a 14 foot boat in my garage but don't know if I will miss the 2 feet of length. Fishing reserviors here in Kansas. What are your thoughts on the 1450 Discovery versus the Fury 1600? I really like that the Discovery has the Terrova and it is $3000 cheaper. Also nice storage on Crestliner. But the Lund is a 16 foot boat. It is just me and my wife fishing.

Man that wind blows a lot in KS. I'd get the 16 footer- all day.

I've fished out of a LOT of death-boats. Fishing is WAAAY more fun when you're not worrying about dying! LOL.

A 14 and a half foot boat with a side console is already crowded before you get any people in it.
I believe Crestliner has dropped the 14.5 model.

Meanwhile Lund's 1600 Fury is still one of their best sellers
Storage is good in the Fury too, especially if it is a tiller. You are starting out with more room to begin with.

As for I-Pilot.. you can upgrade a Power drive to I-Pilot for about $400 (parts)

So I eliminated the Crestliner. I was able to get them down to $15,500 on the 2021 Lund Fury 1500. However I can buy a new leftover 2023 Smokercraft Angler 16 with a 50 hp Yamaha for just a little more. It is equipped with a Minn Kota Power drive, cover, 3 seats, Helix 5, and battery charger.

I don't think that 50 HP is enough on a 16' boat. I KNOW it is not when you are fishing at elevation.

I had a Lund 1660 Classic Sport with a 60 HP Merc and it would struggle to get on plane with two people and a full live well.

My dealer just posted this, fresh Honda on it, good trailer.

It really depends on the 16' boat. Your 1660 classic is probably twice as big as the Fury and the Smokercraft mentioned. A 25 works fine on the Fury and a 40 leaves nothing on the table.

Excellent point. Be sure you're happy with the trailer under the used Fury you're considering. Lund frequently packages that boat with an adequate but somewhat compromised trailer.

It has the upgraded bunk trailer. Rear tank hider, extra seat, tach and speedometer gauges, bimini top, battery charger, etc. The best deal I can find on that same boat new is $22,092 plus sales tax which will run me another $1435.

That is a great looking rig! And a very nice trailer.

We have a 1999 16 Rebel with a 40 E-Tec and it is a great setup. With the 40 on this size boat I'd swear you could fill the boat to the gunnels with anything you desire and still plane the load.

It is almost identically sized to the newer Fury hull (both 16', 73" beam, and about 500 lb) and performs similarly. Having had this Rebel for a number of years and also having fished extensively from the Fury 1600 I am of the opinion the Fury's layout is a big improvement over the Rebel. The front deck on the Fury is a little bit higher than on the Rebel which provides more usable and accessible storage underneath and also permits the livewell to be up front. The Livewell on the port side of the Rebel and the relatively tall rod locker box on the starboard make the Rebel seem narrower and limits seat pedestal placement compared to the twin low rod lockers on the Fury. But the Rebel locker is huge in comparison.

The Fury is a V hull all the way to the transom (with modest deadrise) while the 16 Rebel is a V in the front but flat at the transom. I think the flared chines on the Fury make it a little wider at the waterline and it planes really easy.

With that new Honda on there, that's a nice setup.

in my opinion, the 16' would be my choice. the 40 HP or a 50 HP will be good.

I don't remember the brand or model but I had a friend that owned a 16' boat with a 25 HP on it. with 3 people and gear it worked great.

the important thing is the prop used. if they will loan you props that would be a huge +. when they pick a prop they want one that won't overrev but will perform OK for you. so you may need to upgrade the prop. a low pitch will have more power on low end and give you the best holeshot. but it may not give you the best top end speed. you want one that gives you good top end but still has enough power to get on plane without taking all day.

another option for power and overall performance you might want to try a 4 blade. I would go down in pitch 2" on a good 4 blade from what the dealer recommends.

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOATING WHICHEVER WAY YOU GO.
