Went to Separation Lake Lodge around July 4th and used the guides to provide us with the hot spots. We arrived after the mayfly hatch. The walleyes we caught were stuffed with them, but we were able to catch about 25-30 fish per day. I'm sure it will be better as the summer moves on. Jigs with minnows were the standard. You can throw cranks like rattle traps or spoons, spinners. They hit everything, but unless a storm is moving in the live bait works well around points with current. Fishing was great in 12' of water or less. Lots of fish and you can use anything to catch them. This is not rocket science. The weather was a bigger factor.
Walleyes were typically around 1-2 lbs. We caught around 4 that were 1.5 - 4 lbs and 2 that were in the 7-8 lbs in the three days we fished. Considering the mayfly hatch we were pretty satisfied. Next time we will stay for a week. The English river system is great. We met a couple of Doctors that have fished Canada numerous times and they mentioned that that Separation Lake/ Lount/English river provided better results then any of the other areas they had fished.
