Gopher 3X I guess the Gophers have played somebody now. 9-0 Baby! Should be ranked in the top 10 this week.

It certainly looks that way now. App played a very disappointing game against Georgia Southern on Halloween. App flat out played a poor game against the same team that upset them last year as soon as they became ranked. They are a passing team and 40 mph winds following that storm didn't help at all. However, even as poorly as they played, they still had a couple of chances to put together a game winning drive and were unsuccessful. And we all thought the game against South Carolina next weekend was going to be the deciding factor in whether or not they were going to play in a major bowl game. Now that game hardly matters.

Look out Iowa and Michigan, right behind you in this coming week's polls is a team that you've probably never heard of - Appalachian State Mountaineers (well, Michigan fans remember them!). They have the potential to be a top 10 team this year for sure as long as they can stay healthy. This second half of the season is beginning to get interesting. I don't think the top 4 teams are quite as strong as they have been in the recent years, so there are still some good games to come.

Back when I was a kid the blackskirts were in their prime, mid 90s, and man did we have to hear about how great they were from our relatives in Norfolk. They had a blast with bragging about their team. They’ve been a whole lot quieter in recent years and though the Hawkeyes have never had a historic run like that, they sure dominated them since joining the conference. My hatred runs deep and is easily tracked to its roots. About 45 days straight of big red chewing gum in the mail will do that to a kid in small town Iowa.

Oh I get it, and yes it is fun going back and forth, I learned many moons ago there are way many more things to get upset about than Husker football. Needless to say, the past 20 years or so have been quite humbling.
I love my Huskers, and try to be realistic with my expectation year to year, but I must admit that even though I knew we had a lot of ground to make up, I never imagined just how far Riley in 3 short year set this program back, it's sickening.
I am confident in this though, Frost is the guy, I can't guarantee we will ever be in a national championship game, but we will be competitive and play in some big 10 championships again.

There was frost on the ground this morning on my way to work, but much like the hopes and dreams of husker nation, along with the frost in Lincoln, it is slowly melting away.

Looks as though the big ten is already feeling bad for the cornsuckers and going away from husker/hawk west showdown on Black Friday. Probably want to feature teams that are relevant to the big ten championship game, which Nebraska is not. [emoji112]

I don’t believe the Big 10 had much to do with that, it was that dumb a*$ athletic director of ours, Eichorst. That blunder was another reason he was fired. I heard that they’ve already worked it out to put that game back on the schedule for black friday the following year or so.

Aspencreek The biggest part of the equation on turning a program around is getting the recruits you need and to get them to BUY IN. Without the leadership in the Jr and SR class to show them how to study film, or to even study film, and do what needs to be done in the weight room, I don't care what the rank of your recruiting class is or was, you are going to struggle. There may be some flashes or one yr wonders but that will all even out.
The problems that Frost has is several, 1) going to N is not that big a deal anymore, face it, getting kids from TX and FL and GA to come to Lincoln is a stretch, with all of the alternatives available 2) weather 3) academic's at N and W and I and MN, they expect you to go to class 4) history and past tradition means nothing to these recruits anymore, if you think about it they were not even born yet when those traditional N power teams were playing. 5) There has to be a walk-on program for these teams now, you are NOT going to hit on your prospective recruits at anything better than a 10% clip. That's just the way it is, the OSU, AL, GA, ND, Clemson etc do better than that, but if you think you can go head to head, you will be left holding 1-2 4 stars and a bunch of 2-3 stars. WI tried that several years ago after the Rose Bowl wins and it got them nowhere. Which means you must have coaches that can coach, teach, mentor and develop players, not fat cats with big names that can't or won't do any of that.
Interestingly enough, Fleck has started the process at MN, let's see if it can continue even next year when the schedule get's tougher (it is tougher right), a pretty good team should be 7-0 with that schedule so far, but he has his team believing. Remember he had a Western MI team 13-0 going into a bowl game, and we saw how that worked out.
