kona77 I agree with the first response and Fleet Farm has a lot more fishing/hunting supplies ( at least in the past) and I have used them a lot more.. I do agree with the other comments that the stock shortages have definitely increased in the last year.. I mainly shop two stores in WI.. Fleet is building a brand new store (West Bend WI) that is close to me and I will be interested to see how they stock the store

Kevin23 Fleet farm by far, as long as it is in stock. Farm and fleet have one maybe two aisles of fishing gear, fleet farm (at least the one i went to) had at least 25-30.

Mojo-NC It wasn't until I read this thread that I came to the realization that Fleet Farm and Farm and Fleet were actually different stores. I've only been to the latter. After a quick Google search, it turns out that both stores were started by family friends. For those who have been to both, which one is generally better for hunting and fishing supplies?

Hasn't been in Appleton for over a year,..

They built a new DC in Chippewa Falls, WI,...

They "let go" all of their drivers and got rid of their trucks and now DHL is contracted to run the trucking part of it.

peter8 I was at the Deforest store last night. The fishing department looks like there was a robbery ...1/2 the pins are empty. I also needed some 2 cycle One Mix for my shop. They had 0 in stock and 1 bottle of another brand for mixing with a gallon of gas. It is sure a sad ending for a once great run store. It sucks but they almost make us use this keyboard to shop.

But, that is starting to change. There have been four instances in the last two weeks that I started shopping at Fleet Farm, but finished my shopping at Home Depot as Fleet Farm was out of the items that I wanted to purchase. As I thought about it, this has been going on since at least last summer. The "out of stocks" are widely distributed throughout the store, rather than being confined to individual departments.

One friend that works at Fleet Farm told me that many customers are commenting about the out-of-stocks. This friend told me that the problem is caused by an on-going restructuring. Another employee told me that there are multiple problems causing the out of stocks.

Have you noticed similar things in your local Fleet Farm? I'm wondering if the issues are confined to the store in Appleton or are more wide-spread.

I'm thinking that it's nearing time to start shopping elsewhere.

Kindest regards....

There are not any around me, but I have visited the one in st. cloud a few times. First went probably 5 years ago and it was amazing, wall to wall fishing gear for every technique possible. Two years ago I think it was I ran out of 1/4 walking sinkers mid week, no problem just run to FF and grab some. Not a single 3/16, 1/4, or 3/8 walking sinker in stock.... Needed some slow death hooks, one pack of #6 in stock (who uses a slow death that small??)... Had #5 split shots on the list too, guess what? None. Started hitting gas stations on the way back and hit one that had everything I needed.

ChuckD I shop Fleet Farm all the time. I have had some frustrations with the new way it's doing business. They have changed everything and the shelves have been mighty empty at times.

I will give them kudos for major improvements to firearms and ammunition department.

I just visited the store for spark plugs and the entire stock was darn near gone. I found only 1 plug I needed and it was the last one on the shelf. In fact, I bought the last of several items from the shelf. Motor oil for my outboard...crickets were chirping. A lot of empty shelves and my list of things I needed were unfilled.

Overall, KKR is sucking it up really bad.

peter8 I agree with most that the FF stores have gone down hill. They used to be the best bet to find tackle and lots of it. The new Deforest store has a small poorly stocked fishing dept. The old stores haven't restocked some items since the spring of 2018. The Oshkosh, Stevens Point and Wausau old school stores had the 6-8" trays under the shelves full of excess stock of cranks etc. Now they are turned upside down and are toe kicks. Cabela's was gutted when they merged with Pro Bass and are now basically Kwik Trip sporting goods stores with limited stock. Gander now seems to carry the most inventory in my opinion. At least the Madison,Wausau, and Janesville stores. And yes I do remember Bob's up by Green Bay....too bad it closed. I think it is just a sign of the times when you are 1 click away from a purchase in todays world!
