New Merc pro-kicker 15 EFI

Well I finally decided on getting a kicker, and went with this option.
I’m getting the tiller handle version power tilt / trim , and you can move the Handle to either side of the kicker, and also adjust it and bolt it down up to 18 degrees (all good)

Suzuki would have been cheaper, but there aren’t a bazillion Suzuki shops around but there are merc shops... so I went this way.

The 15 is only 16lbs heavier than the 9.9, but the 15 is EFI, and has enough output to charge things so all good. I go on rivers a good deal (missouri) so having a decent kicker is all good.

After I get it planted, I’ll get an itroll so I can use it for walleye in May - June... and after I guess. I have an ultrex up front to guide it with ipilot link so I should be good to go.

I mention this Incase anyone else is thinking about going this route... I’ll give updates as the motor gets in.

I’m mounting it on the left side because I put a duck blind (beavertail) on the right during the fall so it will equal out the weight distribution factor a bit. The kicker will come in handy with shallow areas I put the boat for ducks.

Sounds like you did your homework and made a good choice by choosing a EFI outboard over a carb motor.

What were you given for delivery time

Spot shooter 02-19-2018 06:18 AM

I should get a delivery ETA today.

Basspro had a Extra Long tail in stock, I went with a long so they will have to go back to merc for that one.

One added note on the kicker - my lund alaskan is not a heavy boat, so I’ll find out really quickly if i need to change out the pitch of the prop. To get down to slow trolling speeds.

Let us know

I talked with Mercury this morning and they where shipping the pro-kickers starting Feb 1, and thier lead time on motors = 4 weeks (20 working days). They also said that the long shafts are out there, so my motor should come in during Mid March.

I should be OK for the 5 year warranty, all they have to do is register the motor (with the serial number) by the end of March and it’s good for the promotion.

I’ll update as the thread as things progress, currently the motor is on order..

Itroll - I had emailed the Itroll folks, Joel got back to me todays and told me that Mercury is shipping them the same 15hp EFI kicker so they can do the servo design so it is set for the itroll system. Pretty cool.

What about buying a Tohatsu?

The Mercury is a rebranded one anyway...... but it might have a different tiller handle......

Right now there is a 5 yr warranty promotion from Merc.

So there is that.
