Mod-V or V Hull

I am going to buy a smaller boat this spring for small lakes. These lakes dont get any real waves and are 5 mph restricted. I'd use the boat mostly for bass and panfish. The biggest lake I'm contemplating to use the boat on is 1100 acres and it can get a little choppy, but mostly the water gets rougher due to wakeboarders in the summer.

I'm cornered into smaller boats because my garage only has 18 usable feet. Im looking at G3 1548 and the Lund SSV 14. Either boat would get a 9.9 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. Im nearly 6'5 and almost 300 pounds.

A: Would either be suitable to stand in?

B: Would the SSV be that much safer?

I would fish the smaller lakes 90% of the time.

Mod V's are a great stable fishing platform that are very versatile. The biggest issues is that they don't ride as nice as a true "V" hull. If you will only have a 9.9hp on either, I would opt for the modified "V" since they are a bit more stable and more roomy. That's just my $.02. Why not a lund modified "V"?

Last year in Canada the camp boat we used was a Alumacraft V14. It was powered by a 15 hp Yamaha but a 9.9 would have worked for smaller waters. It was very stable, flat floor and had a very good ride. One of the guys using the boat weights over 300 lbs. (sorry Mark). You could fish standing up in calm water using some common sense. (like drift fishing). I would recommend this boat for anyone as a smaller water boat. Again common sense should prevail.

mod v would be the best for what you describe.

Maybe check out the Lowe 1468. The Lund SSV is a very nice boat.

I fished out of an old messer 14’ mod V with 25hp 2 stroke for years. Still have it to this day. It’s a duck boat now but worked great.

Swing away tongue on trailer might buy you an extra foot or so.
