Trolling Rods

Is there really any reason or need to spend a lot of money on a trolling rod? I haven’t done a lot of trolling but want to work on it this season. Wondering about picking up several Cabela’s depth masters at $30 each. Of course one could spend a lo more on something like an eyecon trolling rod but what is the advantage. We are talking rod holder rods here. Sensitivity should not be an issue.

The Cabelas rods are fine for trolling,...

Watch for them to go on sale for $19.99 sometime this winter,...They usually do,......

spnd the money on good Diawa sg line counters for your trolling gear.

Check out Ebay for trolling rods. You can find some good prices on Okuma classic series. Similar to the Cabelas rods. You can get them for around $20 each. Pair it with a Coldwater reel and you will get years of good service out of them.

Yes you don't need a expensive rod for trolling. I have some 7' Shimanos I got for about $13 each.

I use the 7 foot Wilderness rod in medium weight. They came from Frank's a few years ago and were under $20. I have 8 of them and have never broken one.

X2. I use them on boards and long lining cranks.

Cabelas depthmasters work fine for me. Like the telescopic feature too.

Thanks all. Good to know I can save a few bucks on the rods and spend that money elsewhere

The thing I have noticed in running different trolling rods is the tip action some rods will not show how well some of the smaller crankbaits are running. Number 5 Flickershads running on a stiffer tip rod does not show well what the bait is doing. If running bigger harder pulling cranks not a big difference.
