How Is Your Deer Hunting Going This Year?

I wish that I could say that mine has been going well but that would be less than truthful. Last year was not kind to me and this year seems to be following suit. My confidence is not at a high level though but I'll keep plugging away.
Deer hunting isn't just about the kill....... I have to keep reminding myself! Lol!!!

I did allot of sitting last year (2014) and never had a shot on a deer or Turkey.

2015 is a whole different year. Last day of Turkey I tagged a nice mature Tom. Deer season lasted less than 26 hours and all tags filled. In a way I was disappointed as the pleasure of sitting and watching nature was over real fast.

You had to ask! :)
Pa archery just closed on Sat. Had one buck @ 10 yds., not enough horn. Later on had another buck @ about 10 yds., not enough horn. Saw another one that also wasn't legal. Then saw a nice legal one, out of range.
Also saw a few doe, out of range. Finally on the last day, a legal buck was @ 20 yds.
In the scope (crossbow), pulled the trigger, and the buck takes off and I can watch it go through the woods for quite aways. Sat about 15 min. and went to check for blood, NOTHING!
Started thinking, did the expanding BH open prematurely and hit the stirrup or maybe cause the arrow to really deflect, I couldn't have missed that deer.
Had to check; went up with a metal detector to see if I could find the arrow, maybe, just maybe would get lucky.
After searching for about 1 1/2 hrs., and trying to visualize the approximate area where this arrow could have gone, I finally found it.
It was sticking in a tree, app. 7' off the ground and app. 58yds. from where I had shot from.
To make matters worse, as I was stepping off the distance I heard a deer snort and saw several deer going through heavier brush below me.
When they got into a more open area, there was a doe in the lead and 4 racked buck trailing her and grunting, looked like a darn deer train going through the woods!
I will be in there with the gun!
You had to ask!!!!! :)

I haven't stepped foot in the woods in 15 years until this pas saturday, decided to go out with a buddy he has some great property to hunt, 3 hours in a buck steps into the cross hairs of the crossbow and I bagged my first deer ever, just a small 8 point but what the heck first deer I wasn't going to pass! So I guess you can say its going well. Going to get back out for a doe eventually still walleye fishing

Good so far. Got this guy at 30 yards following a doe November 9th. We will see how the second half goes with gun season opening Saturday.

Been awful this year in WNY! Yes some doe and young bucks have passed by but no shooters seen during the day, many at night though on the cameras. One nice 10 that we had on the camera was jacked during bow season and we think we know who did it. The DEC is investigating it and we think at least some citations or maybe an arrest is forthcoming. With this warm weather, we will be breaking records this weekend while in the 60's, and plenty of food there is no reason for these deer to move around. The lack of hunter pressure is also contributing. Opening weekend was down 11% VS. last year and overall the season which ends on the 22nd won't be good. I'm also wondering about the coyote pressure? Seeing many of them on cameras at night. Going to try hunting them right after our deer season ends.

Another good bow season! November 6th - 5:15

There is and it's a doozy - very blessed to have the opportunity at this buck!
Thanks

My brother and I set out to hunt the same farm yesterday. The plan was he would sit in a funnel on the northeast corner of the farm and I would borrow his sticks and stand and do my first hang and hunt on the south end of the farm. I left early so I could try to get the stand hung. I got it up and have to admit its a pretty slick set up but the problem is shooting lanes. I climbed down four times to clear more lanes. One of the times I was on the ground sawing away and a 2.5 year old cruiser about ran me over. Anyway I get a few holes cut for shooting and settle in for the afternoon. The deer were active yesterday and my brother and I had been texting back and forth about what we were seeing. At 5 my brother text me and said he just rattled in the wide ten and hit him but wasnt sure about the shot so he planned to get down and check blood and back out. The wide ten is a buck my brother and I know well. Weve had multiple run ins with him and plenty of trail cam pics the last couple years. I text him back and said I was going to finish my hunt then I would help him. Shortly after that all **** broke loose in the timber and four does ran by me. I could hear crashing coming down the hill behind them so I grabbed my bow and before I knew it all I could see was a rack headed right at me zigging in and out of the thick stuff. He got to the base of my tree and started doing circles around it with his nose to the ground. I was merpin and bwatn doing everything I could to get him to stop but he wouldnt. I finally just yelled hey and he paused long enough for me to get an arrow in him. My first shot spined him so I put another one in him behind the shoulder. He got back to his feet and made it about 60 yards and crashed. I texted my brother to call me but as soon as the text went through my phone died so I gathered everything and went over to check him out. When I got to him I couldnt believe it but it was the wide ten my brother just told me he shot. At that point I was thinking he had made a false identification so I headed for the truck hoping I could catch him before he headed back for town. I ended up meeting him on the road and asked him how sure he was that he hit the wide ten. He was positive. I said are you sure because I just killed him. He followed me back to the buck and we looked him over and sure enough he had hit him high above the spine. We were sitting over a 1/4 mile apart and 8 minutes had passed from the time he sent the text saying he hit him to the time I texted him saying to call me after the buck was down. He was a pretty good sport about it and even helped me drag him out. I dont know what the odds of that happening are but its a story neither one of us will ever forget. Congrats to those who have tagged - good luck to those still trying and thanks to those who share!

That's an awesome story...and a testament to hard the mating urge is when the time is right.

I shot this guy on public land at 17 yards on 11/5. Not really chasing or anything. Swhacker broadhead went through the boiler room leaving two holes spurting. Ran 50 yards and fell over.

Agree...Very cool story, it's amazing that the deer was still on a mission

Sweet deer Bow tech!

My dad shot his biggest buck ever on November 9th this year went 60yards watched him fall with a crossbow 2 days after his father passed away. I talked to him shortly after he shot it while he was still in the stand and he could barley talk. It almost got me choked up listening to him lol. It was a special day he will never forget.
