I was extremely excited at first, because as you've mentioned, those rods were long overdue for a revamp.
However, they appear to have killed off the 2 best lengths/actions in the entire lineup....

I've got all 3; it's Vanford all day in my opinion, although the tatula isn't a bad reel at all either. I'd generally just avoid the patriarch, it simply isn't on the same level as a tatula or...

Hello,

I almost never jig with 3/4 or 1oz jigs, so it is difficult for me to personally recommend something.

However, I do know that St. Croix makes a rod in their Eyecon series ($150) called...

Yeah this is exactly what happened to me. Got a taste of the high end/enthusiast level gear and went down the rabbit hole... I still haven't come out of it. Kinda funny watching this OSD fellow fall...

The WBBR is a bottom bouncing rod. WBBR = "Walleye Bottom Bouncing Rod". I have used one and to me it isn't designed for casting. You'd be better off with the 904 swimbait rod, which was designed for...

That all comes down to personal preference. Personally I like a 2500 if I'm doing anything with plastics, regardless of the jig weight. Some guys will run 3000s though too!

Yes, it is possible to have too light of a reel. That will result in your rod being slightly tip heavy, which I personally don't like.

The 2500 Vanford (6.3oz) on my NRX SYR balanced near perfect...

The NRX rods are extremely lightweight, so even small changes in your reel weight/size will impact the overall balance and feel of the setup. Remember that these rods literally weigh in the low 3oz...

I run a 2500 Tatula on my NRX 822s SYR, even though I'm partial to Shimano reels. It balances extremely well with a 2500 Tatula or Ballistic for whatever reason. Keep in mind this is the previous gen...

Hey. I have used pretty much every rod mentioned here (besides the Landsat), so I'll offer my thoughts.

You say you mainly jig 3/8oz and neds, correct? In that case I agree with Waxy and would...

Hey Dan.

Honestly you could bobber fish with literally anything, but it's definitely fun to dial in the rod.
I really recommend a longer, medium light power rod for slip bobbing. Like a 7' MLF...

Agree with Waxy. Make sure you're actually holding the line with your finger with the bail open when rigging. We want the fish to pick up the bait/swim off with it and not be able to feel any...

SI has absolutely helped me catch more fish, but it is heavily dependent on seasonality and lake.

For example, I rely on SI way more in the spring and fall than I do in the summer. When water...

Walleye can still get barotrauma when caught in shallower water if they just came up from greater depths. Walleye are physoclistous, meaning they do not have a connection from their swim bladder to...

The "lighter weight" claim didn't make sense to me either. They are built on the exact same SCII blank as before, with the only change appearing to be in the handles. Maybe they added some weight to...

Funny because I love the "snap jig" rods from St. Croix. I think the blank is perfect for it, especially with 1/4oz plus plastic. Definitely a bit of a shame that their lower end rods don't balance...
