My mother used to winterize our travel trailer and boat, and she used a liberal dose of moth balls. I have continued that tradition in my cars and boat for over the winter and have never had a...

Rigging

The best advice I can give is to pull a string with every wire that you pull. That way, in the future if you need to add any device that requires power, the string is already there. Hook your new...

Ram Extensions

I did the same thing on the Tracker Tundra I had and used your post as a guide. I bought a silver shower curtain and took wooden dowel rod to stiffen it up. Cut the Rams off and put screwed the...

Ram Extensions

I originally had Ram Rod holders for trolling on Lake Erie. The worked fine for pulling Boards and cranks. Take the extensions off to pull Dipseys.

leader

My leader is about as long as the rod. Any longer and it makes it tough to net a fish. I use 8 1/2 foot dipsey rods. Use a crosslock snap on the end with the spoon, and a good quality snap swivel...

Good luck with the procedure. You will wonder why you waited so long once the procedure is done.

My buddy has an X4 that we use when we are salmon fishing on Lake Ontario, and it is a must for finding temperature breaks and looking at down speed. I have an X2 on my boat for Lake Erie, and I...

Net

One tip that I've learned over the years is to keep a tight line from the rod to the lure until someone grabs the fish. If you drop the fish and net and let slack in the fishing line, the fish can...

I wore hard contact lenses for 50+ years because of astigmatism so my Optometrist suggested lens replacement surgery with the best eye surgeon he knew in Ohio. They did my right eye first and then...

netting solo

Burr, I agree that I've never netted a fish from behind, but with the trolling speed >2mph and the high sides on my boat, this just seemed to work out best. I got the fish on top so he wasn't really...

Netting while fishing solo trolling

Thought that this would be a good topic for solo fishermen. I fish solo from time to time on Lake Erie and usually fish from my 16 foot Crestliner. When fishing from this boat, because it sits low...

I use two trolling bags in heavy seas to smooth out the surge to the boards and lures. I have a pair of 36" bags and am currently looking for a bigger pair.

For the original bag, I sprayed it with black Plastidip and that sealed up the individual threads, making it much more hook resistant. I actually prefer this net to the rubber one. Several thin...

I have two Stowmaster nets and on one of them I replaced the bag with a rubber net. The hooks don't stick to this net, but with the rubber bag, the net is very heavy. I took a small piece of string...
