On day 5 (9/15), dad and I head out at sunrise to fish near camp. It’s a still, foggy, and beautiful morning. We head to the hump I’d marked the day before in my GPS, this time armed with our...

In this thread: https://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=726570, I was asking questions about turnover before my trip to Wine Lake (It was a great trip. I'll post a detailed report...

Thanks! My takeaway from your statement is that the timing is less to do with surface temps than wind direction and intensity...and that a basin can turn over at a ~60-65 degree surface temp.

I...

Predicting Turnover

Thanks for the report!

What's your experience with the timing of turnover on lakes in this area?

From what little I understand about it, 65 degrees surface is solidly pre-turnover. But the most...

You'll probably need to worry more about the narrows between 1st and 2nd lake. Its narrower than that between 2nd and 3rd (Big) Lake. The system picks up a fair amount of water between those two...

You may also want to search this forum for "Wabaskang" or "Wabby." I know I learned a lot about the lake over the years this way.

Enjoy!

I've fished Wabaskang many times, though not in August since the 90s or much for walleyes. (We targeted pike.) I too will be crossing it to get to "paradise" (Wine Lake) in September. Its pretty cool...

Lessons Learned

In the weeks since our trip, I’ve been mulling over the question, “What did I do wrong?” Maybe wrong is a strong word and I’ve been thinking, “What should I do next time?”
I’d appreciate any...

Thanks for the report. I'm curious what it's like on Anishinabi compared to other lakes, especially when the wind is blowing.

It is a big lake! And mostly over 200' deep!...

The fishing was good--just not up to my unreasonable expectations. That one morning I got about a dozen bass over 12" in 2 hours. That was great. We had a couple of flurries of small pike after pike...

Monday 6/24: Another late start. (We’ve found that the kids need more sleep than the four hours of dark can provide!) It is cool and cloudy. We stop briefly at second narrows. I catch a 32” northern....
