I use a snap weight if I want to get them that deep, but most of the time I pull them without a weight across the top of weed lines. I’ve had very good luck with Flicker shads for crappies too.

Not sure which boat you have but my Lund boat has spare wires at the bow. Maybe you've already done this but a Helix 7 doesn't draw that much power, i would try and locate spare wires in the bow....

Gary, Yamaha has lightened their small outboards, i believe a 9.9 weighs 87 lbs. I think they still have a carb and not EFI but you might check them out.
