The quickest and easiest way to get more speed, is to put more HP on the back of your boat.

Put a 250hp on the back of the boat and you should pick up about another 8-12 mph.

Good luck

The original post speaks of a combo that is at or near the top of the combo's top speed potential.

To get more speed out of the situation, one needs to add more hp or use a different hull on that engine.

The only other simple way to get more speed out of the current combo is to remove every pound of non needed weight when one wants to achieve top speed. i.e. one battery, no kicker or trolling motor, no tackle, no gear, all storage boxes empty and just a 100 lb driver wearing his life vest with 5 gallons of fuel in the fuel tank. Under these conditions and with the motor at the right height and the right prop - set up for maximum speed - it might be possible to get to a speed that is greater than 50 mph. It might take a 1/4 mile to get the boat on plane due to the high pitched prop that one would use to obtain this high speed, but this experiment would show the potential of the hull and the motor combination.

Speaking of weight - that would mean removing the windshield, all of the compartment storage doors, the port side console and anything else that is not needed to float the boat. It would be pretty easy to remove an awful lot of weight from the boat's current configuration.

In a nut shell, rig the outfit, so that there is only 1 foot of boat hull in the water and only the blades of the prop in the water with everything else out in free air where there is no water drag and you are close to achieving the top speed of the rig.

To achieve the absolute best speed of a boat and motor combination, one needs to get virtually all of the boats hull and virtually all of the motors lower unit out of the water into the air where there is much less drag.

-----------------------
Does doing this make any sense for an average boat owner and user - of course not.
But the question was asked - how to get more speed out of a particular boat and motor combination. Reducing total rig weight and drag are two ways to increase the potential speed of a rig.

If you have ever ridden in a high powered, high performance bass boat - you will understand the message about reducing drag and increasing hp. When running flat out, a combination like this will have next to no boat or motor in the water and will literally be flying on a cushion of air - not water.

Good luck
Absolutely ridiculous! The guy has a new boat and was just wondering if "other Impact owners" are getting similar performance or have experience in tweaking a little more speed out of their rigs. So he gets a reply to his question from someone with likely no direct experience with a 1875 Impact Sport talking about stripping the entire boat and putting a 250 on a hull rated for 150. How is this helpful to the OP? As Chris Berman would say...."COME ON MAN"!
