Default Noise in marine band

When I run my Vantage I get a noise in the marine band radio. I tried hooking it to it's own battery and still does it? Doesn't do it when I raise or lower it, Cant squelch it out ether.

You may need a ceramic filter for the motor noise. ..get the same from my Xi5 and can't get rid of it.

Do you have a common ground bond wire between your trolling motor battery NEG post and the NEG post of the battery powering your radio?

I'm not recommending that you do this, just asking the question.

Is the radio new or the vantage? If not have you messed with any of the wiring. Sometimes with the speed control on the TM if wires are close to the TM power wires you will get that signal to jump to the nearby wires. Sometimes just a few inches can make a difference. I once did some tidying up and cable tied the wires up nicely and had electrical noise on everything. Cut the ties and all was fine again. Bob

The first thing you need to do is determine if the noise is via the power or the antenna.

Two different scenarios with two different resolutions.

Disconnect the antenna and see if it lessens or disappears. Then if you can. power with a totally separate power source, battery, jump box, etc.Once you determine where then you know where to start.

- Radio Geek and Ham for years - chased this stuff for a long time.

Be warned, some can't be fixed as it is the equipment.

I tried a separate battery didn't do anything. I will try disconnecting the antenna. Thanks

That indicates it's actually via the antenna, the only way to minimize is to increase the distance between the unit and your antenna.

If you have a handheld or even a scanner you can move around and see any difference. Also maybe better antenna coax and/or grounding.

would it help to wrap coax in tape? Is there a rule of thumb having antenna away from Vantage?
