If your new to the area and new to fishing the river,

The best advice is to stay off it in high water conditions,..

Bad stuff happens fast under normal conditions, In high water a simple mistake can kill you,.....

Thanks for the good advice but I should have been more specific: "new to pool 9". I have experience with the Mississippi in flood stage and a few other rivers for that matter, add Lakes Erie, Ontario, Michigan, and Champlain to the list and I have seen some pretty bad conditions. To top it off I have a very safe, stable, well powered boat that is very capable. Lastly, safety is always my number one concern... no fish is worth life or limb! But isn't this "normal" for spring walleye fishing?

I wouldn't call it normal,...

Last I heard the landing were closed and the river was 4 feet above "no wake",...

Been a couple of days, I doubt it's down much?

yes Bellevue city ramp was closed down yesterday and the DNR ramp was launch from the road! So pool 13 north was dead. The two deep ramps in Dubuque were both full today...alot of boats high in pool 12. I meet some nice guys from Genoa today that said the ramps were closed there as well. Power Plant as well? Fortunately the forecast for next week is down 2 ft :-)
