Does that Expedtition have the 3.5 eco boost? My F 150 mileage 3.5, drops like a rock with any trailer behind it. All gassers take way more fuel to pull a trailer.

But in typical GM fashion, they're finding fun ways to screw it all up.

2021 Tahoe gets worse gas mileage (it can be better in the city, but worse highway) than the outgoing model. 16/20 for the 4x4 (and I think 15/19 for the Z71). Never mind the 4x4 Expedition gets 17/22 (I believe even with the FX4 package).

2021 Tahoe is 6.7" longer than the previous model, if I wanted it bigger, I'd buy a Suburban. But we had to make it bigger because the Expedition was bigger (the new Tahoe is .7" longer than the Expedition). The new Tahoe is 8.4" shorter than a 1990 Suburban was.

And the fun fact related to this thread. If you put the 6.2L in it for better towing, it actually reduces the amount of weight you can tow with the max towing package. So if you want the maximum amount of towing capacity you actually are required to get the smaller engine...
Yeah... you need a Prius with a class 3 hitch. Good luck with those Fords. I worked at the F150 factory in KC for 15 years. I will never own a Ford again. Engineered for 3 years or 36000 miles whichever comes first.

You must have been the IWB installer. LOL. I had a 19 F150 for 5 months. Traded out of it. Loved the fact that it was quick with the baby EcoBoost motor, but everything went downhill from there. Got about 7 mpg pulling my 17' Lowe, small gas tank required several stops for fuel on 180 mile one way road trips. Truck was so light with everything being aluminum. Got great fuel economy in daily driving, but would get blown all over the road.

Went to a 20 Chevy with 5.3. Works awesome and have had zero issues. Personal preference I guess.

I don't think expecting a modern vehicle redesign to not get significantly worse is really asking all that much...

Then again, I'm not one of the people that thinks you need an F350 for 3500 to tow a 4,000 pound boat. I'm currently perfectly happy doing it with the 4L V6 in my 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. Also worth noting that a majority of my driving doesn't include pulling the boat. I spend far more time without a trailer than I do with, so yes, towing MPG matters, but overall MPG matters more. Not sure it make sense that what ever my next vehicle is shouldn't be able to do better than my 11 year old vehicle that is running tech from 2005 (when its design was released).

Would be surprised if 200 pounds was the difference in whether you were blown all over the road. If it was you just needed to bring one more buddy along

Note: Moving to the V8 would have added a some more weight too, but 200 pounds appears to be the difference between a standard cab long-box 4x2 (most basic model I could quickly find for an even comparison).

I should have stated that it was a 4x4, since I live in Colorado. LOL. But maybe the weight difference is the same between 4x4s as well. I never checked. The F150 just didn't seem to hold the road in the same manner as my Chevy. They both had Wrangler tires on them, so I didn't think that was the difference either. I just like that I get 15 mpg towing my boat now, compared to half that with my baby EcoBoost. Less stops along the way, mean more time on the lake for me. The EcoBoost got about 22-23 with normal non-towing mpg, whereas my Trail Boss gets about 20-21. It works for me, but I am sure everybody's towing and driving needs vary.

1000 miles of towing on the interstate and local roads to South Dakota pulling an 1850 Tyee. Didn’t know the boat was behind me the entire time but 10mph is all that I managed with a 2019 6.2 crew cab with 17,000 miles. Not what my 2017 5.3 six speed was but also it worked a lot harder at those speeds.

10 MPH, ouch, longest road trip EVER!

10 MPG is pretty bad, my old V6 may have to work a little but at least I generally get 12-14 MPG with a 1850 Reata. Although, how fast were you going? I think speed limits are a little higher that direction and I remember being able to watch the gas gauge move on our vehicles driving in Montana, even when empty, especially if you crossed 80 MPH.

Running mostly 65-80. South Dakota speed limit is 80 and even unloaded when I break 80 the mileage drops pretty quick. I run mostly 10% ethanol but also ran a couple tanks of premium and noticed no difference. There was a little cross wind when heading out but not bad.

Do you tow with boat cover on? I've noticed 1-2mpg improvement towing with cover.
