Default bugs terrible in Erie western basin

I remember back in the 80's one hot day when you could not take in a breath without sucking in these tiny bugs. Could not get away from them unless you went to shore. Happened today off Kelleys Shoal. As soon as we powered down to put out the trolling stuff they were all over everything. In your ear, up your nose, between eye and glasses and all over the boat. We fished two hours and gave up. Hope the hatch only lasts a week and will try again next week.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be perch'n tomorrow and I suspect the little bugs will still be around for a few more days while it's hot out.

If I put it on my ankles will it keep those biting black flies from munching on me too?

It will help,.....If you rub it in on your feet they will feel cool for quite awhile as well,.........

Maybe pick up a can of fly spray for barns at a farm supply store and spay it on the carpet,....That keeps them away as well,...

I believe those are called Erie midges. Anyone remember the Yankees vs. Indians playoff game about 8 years ago when they swarmed the entire field?

Default Biting Flies

Go and get some Basic H soap. It is a Watkins product. Dilute it by 1/3 basic H and 2/3 water. Covered area thoroughly and no biting flies. Works awesome!

Juls, I have had good luck with Coppertone Sport 30spf spray for the biting flies

Have a good time chasing the Perch! I know you like them, and so do I.

You quoted me from something I said in July of 2013. We are not perch fishing here right now.

Just waiting for the ice to finish going out, so we can start fishing again.
