Default protect your dogs hearing

I have seen guys put their dogs between their legs in their layout blind, then shoot over top them. I have seen dogs in blinds where the dog is sticking his head out in front of the blind, then several guys shoot over top of pup. Man, that poor dog has to be suffering from shot gun blast big time. My dog is in his hut slightly behind me so his hearing is protected.

Tough call. When we are pheasant hunting we shoot over our dogs and there's nothing that can be done about it. I think deaf old hunting dogs is the norm though my 11 year old can still hear a single rice crispy hit the kitchen floor from 2 rooms away.
