Who really needs the hassle of this issue. You sink $35,000 to $90,000 into a boat and you want to put this on your plate ......... especially in a couple of years when you try and sell the boat and someone out there is gunning for you because the motor is no longer in production. I would run as fast as I could away from those motors. The current manufacturers make such good motors there is no reason to support this chaos. Joe

Eventually all motors are outdated and go out of production, oil injected 2-strokes, hpdi, Optimax, original verado. If the company is still in business what is the difference? Most if not all the electronics are outsourced, probably easier to get than mechanical parts.

A 100% discount would be a reasonable discount for a motor with no potential future parts or repair available.

[QUOTE=buckmaster7600;6447518]How much of a discount would you need to purchase a new etec today.

We were discussing it at work last night and I still don’t know. I am still considering a 15HO kicker.

Would you even consider a new boat purchase with an etec?

Given the good track record of the motor, yet uncertainty on parts, service and resale value, I'd buy one if it was about 50 to 60 % off.

That’s basically where I’m at as well. If I could buy for 50% off I would probably bite the bullet and do it.

Agreed. I’m no fan, but for every one that is trying to stay away, who’s to say there are not others that are trying to grab them while available?

This is what I'm hearing is happening.

Apparently the available inventory of new motors is pretty skinny, and there are actually dealers battling it out to get their hands on the last of them, especially the popular HP models.
