Default Mercury Pro Kicker Help

Purchasing Mercury 9.9 pro kicker for Lund 1800 pro v. Available in EFI and carb versions for 2021. I would prefer EFI but dealer is steering me towards carb, says EFI idles faster than carb and guys have complained they can't go slow enough for walleye fishing here. Anyone w a 18 ft boat and the EFI kicker that can comment. Appreciated!

Your dealer is correct, the EFI 9.9 idles 100rpm higher than the carb version. A friend of mine compensated by having a prop shop reduce the diameter of his prop 3/8", to effectively reduce the pitch.

Never heard any Suzuki owners complaining about the trolling speed with their 9.9 EFI

My intel tells me they are coming up with a 5" pitch prop (to fit the 14-spline shaft) to address the speed @ idle rpm issue,,,,

I have an 18' Crestliner and took off the 9.9 and went to a 5h long shaft almost 10years ago. Never regretted doing that as now i can go as slow as i need to with no issues. Not sure with your style of fishing but i mostly jig and pull spinners and slow death rigs...Chico...

Was your 9.9 a kicker or just a regular 9.9 as the kicker has way different gearing.

That is what my 15 hp Suzuki EFI came with. Idles right down.

There is one 5" but it's a 12 splines so they must have an adapter

You would think it would be pretty easy for Merc to switch to that one. Just put a 14 spline in the same prop instead of a 12 spline.
