I trolled with a 6 hp Suzuki on a small Princecraft for a couple of years. Frustrating would be my description of that. Hate mixing gas, the motor was reliable, but didn't like trolling for longer periods of time and it wouldn't go slow enough for me.
My next boat was a Crestliner 18 ft, 60 HP Merc with an 8 HP Merc kicker on a trolling bracket. That got changed after 1 years use to a 4 HP Merc long shaft mounted directly to the transom. Some vibration was much easier to accept than the enduring a cold blooded manual start motor and motor bracket that required the motor to be off during trailering.
Lots of good reasons to get a small kicker for your boat - if you have a good dealer to use as a resource, I would recommend speaking to them too.
BTW I finally ended up with a 9.9 Prokicker with an Itroll and remote throttle. Does everything I need it to, should have done that from the start.
