Default Minn Kota terrova lift-assist

I am looking for a new motor for my crossover , not sure which one I should go with , ulterra vs terrova , the new terrova has a lift assist, does it really help? never owned terrova before I had power drive v2 which was a pain to stow .
Am worried about the ulterra not stowing and getting stuck.
Thanks

I went from a PD V2 to a new Terrova last year, night and day.

The lift assist is very real and works really well.

I went from an old terrova which i had no problem lifting to a new one with lift assist. Yes it is easier but you cant run a transducer wire down the shaft with the lift assist. My lift assist is coming off so i can run a cable down.

Darren, Have you considered the Cable Guard from precisionsonar.com so you can run a ducer to the exterior of the motor housing? I have no ties to this company, but I did buy the product and I'm pretty happy. I wanted Down Imaging and this was a great option for me. Check them out!

You might save a few bucks with this one. He makes them for Randy.

purchased a new boat last summer, my old rig had a Maxxum trolling motor, now have the Terrova with lift assist on my new one. The lift assist is MUCH easier, I had same concerns about the Ulterra, what if it won't deploy or retract? Plus the additional cost, put he difference I saved towards electronics.

I heard you can't do that because the locking ring is part of the lift assist. I'd love to take it off because I don't notice a difference in how easy the motor is to stow. Let me know if it works for you.

When you take the lift assist off you need to buy the $15 depth collar like the old terrovas had ( already ordered off ebay ). I have talked to a few guys who have done this after the lift assist band broke several times. I also have a stabilzer mount so that's what i grab when lifting the motor and is much easier then grabbing the head of the motor to lift.

As far as the cable savers ect.. just dont care for the look of a coiled air hose look.

I have only read of 4-5 guys having issues, ive lifted mine likely a hundred times and no issue.

This is why i got a terrova over an ulterra. At anytime or after 2 years that lift motor goes on the ulterra your SOL until you get it fixed and i can imagine the price. If the lift assist goes at anytime or after 2 years on a terrova i just keep on going. The new motors are so good i cant see me needing a new one for a very long time and since i got the link i hope any new features will be through the humminbird.
