Need help deciding on a kicker
I have a Crestliner Sportfish 1750. I like Tohatsu and Merc which I hear is the same. And should I get a 8 or 9.9 or can I get by with a 6hp ? And how hard is it to take the motor on and off the boat so I can use it on a johnboat ? Is this feasable ? What about weight considerations ? I know I want a 4-stroke. I currently have an 130 evinrude 2-stroke and 36 volt system for the trolling motor - with that, having the extra weight on the transom with the kicker, how much can I have on the back of the boat ?

i have been having the same considertions that you have-- it looks like up to a 6hp you can lift it on and off yourself and sometimes you dont want a kicker on the boat-- think a 6hp is 58 lbs---- a 9.9hp can get up to 100lbs- i am not sure a person needs alot of hp to troll since a electric trolling motor will suffice alot of the time. merc tohatsu nissan are the same----yammies and zukies are higher priced and heavier.

Easy to hang and remove. I would look for a 4 stroke so it's easy to put in the Sportfish without a tank. I'd think either the 8 or 9.9. That should move that little johnboat well.

Can't you balance out a lot of the weight of the kicker by moving those trolling motor batteries forward in the boat? Under a console or into a dry storage bin in the bow section perhaps.

I have a 2006 Merc 8hp (electric start) on a 06 Crestliner 1750 Sport angler. Great motor. Trolls down to 1 mph with the stock prop. Motor is quiet and smooth. If I remember right, the weight was around 84lbs.

Kicker
My ride is a 1800 superhawk with a 175 Vrod.Originaly i installed a 9.9 4 stroke merc. after a year and a half i switched to a 5 horse merc. This setup is perfect in every way for the type of fishing i do(jigging dead slow or pulling bottom bouncers)The 5 horse is light enough to take of with ease, with all the power to move the boat if you have big engine trouble.Happened to me a few times.Good Luck with your decision hope this helps Chico.

Kicker
After doing some more research, I need a 20" shaft don't I ? I like the tohatsu 6hp which is what I am leaning towards, available in the 15,20,25 inch shaft lengths. Also, for steering and throttle, are there kits that are push button or am I gonna have to install another shifter and teleflex cables for this as well ?

i know they have electronic throttle dont know about steering. i have a friend in colorado that uses his i pilot minn kota to steer the boat when trolling with the kicker and the kicker recharges his battery in the process-- the tohatsu have charging systems optional for the 6hp or they are standard on the 25'' 6hp.

I have a 8hp Tohatsu long shaft electric start if I remember correctly it ways 84lb.I do take it off when going to Montana and Canada not that hard to do.Remember the 8 and 9.9 are two cylinders and will run way smoother then a one cylinder.I have fished with Lot's of kickers over the years and have never Ben happy with a one cylinder engine .I do have a 6hp twin cylinder two cycle johnson that was my kicker for over a decade, now it spends all it's time on my john boat and still runs great.

Depends on the water, wave action and type of water you fish. I had a 1850 Sportfish with a 8 hp 4 stroke Evinrude. I would not go less than the 8 H.P. I had the 20 inch transome with the batteries in the back. I had a 175 as well. No problems. Following seas? Install wave wackers. Think of it this was, if your far offshore, the main dies, the waves are picking up, you want that extra HP to push the boat and handle that wave action to get back in. Just my thoughts.
