The answer to your question is a HEMI. I went from a tundra 5.7 to a hemi 5.7 last year. It’s got more power, interior is way nicer, tows better, was cheaper and yeah 18-20 mpg on the highway is nice too. I loved my tundra and planned on getting a new one but they are just to dated. 10-12 mpg doesn’t cut it these days. Sorry I didn’t give opinion on the 2 choices you listed but I wouldn’t leave out ram. I have heard they have had rust issues though. But my tundra did too. Northeast winters will get rust on any make. Go drive them all.

The happiness you have with your vehicle is skewed by the luck of the draw. When my brother rode the first time in my 2003 Silverado (bought used with 11K miles), he ran out and bought a brand new one and had nothing but trouble, including a failed trans. The only problem I had for the 162K I drove mine was a brake line failure because GM decided to not use stainless steel (??????!!). He has had a Tundra for about twelve years and loves it, it's treated him well. I upgraded to a 2012 Silverado for the 6.2L and six-speed trans for towing, no problems in 43K. I'm happy, and so is my brother.

If possible, I would wait and see what the new 2022 Tundra looks like. The ancient design and terrible gas mileage is what kept me away before.

I had a Tacoma in college that was not maintained well, my brother gave it to me when he bought a new truck. I changed all the fluids and proceeded to drive that truck for over 200k miles, I never had a single issue with that truck not one. Same goes for our Corolla with 270k miles on it. My buddies tundra has had a couple minor problems in 150k miles. Then in 2007 I bought a brand new z-71 suburban, it was a total piece of garbage. Electrical problems, recalls, charcoal canister plugged every 25k miles, CD changer died, fuel pump died all before 50k miles. It was using 1 1/2 quarts of oil by 30k miles and they told me it was normal. After that experience I have never owned another Chevy. The thing that irked me was how the dealership always tried to wiggle their way out of warranty work. It sucks too because the new Silverado’s are the nicest looking trucks out there.

Boy, once again I'm astounded at some of the bad luck you guys have with trucks.

I literally cannot believe how many problems one man can have with a truck.

I'm a Chevy guy because I used to sell 'em many years ago but haven't since 2001.

I had a '99 1500 ext cab 4x4. Wanted to go to a 5th wheel camper so sold that and bought an '05 2500 4x4 crew cab shortbox w/6.0 gas. Good truck, averaged 11 mpg, which wasn't great. In 99,000 miles I changed the oil, one set of brakes and 3 sets of tires. There were a couple recalls but never anything that cost me out of pocket. That's all.
Then I wanted to start playing around with old tractors and needed to pull heavier trailers so I bought a 2016 2500 crewcab shortbox Duramax. It now has 39K miles, 90% of those have been hooked to an implement trailer or camper or the camper pulling a boat. I've changed fuel filters once, change oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Still has original tires and brakes. It has never been back to the dealership for warranty work.

What am I doing wrong???

Come on man...you have to know Tundra's and Etec's are the Cat's a$S. Chevy + GMC = the most sold trucks every year in the US!! yea yea Ford will say they sell the most and that GMC and Chevy are different brands.....hahaha they both (GMC and Chevy) roll interchangeably off the same line.

A proud GM worker!

Car and driver did a towing comparison. I thought it was interesting the big difference between the full size 1/2 T trucks, almost 4700 lbs. Ford F150, 14000; Chevy 1500, 13400; Ram 1500, 12750; Toyota Tundra, 10200; Nissan Titan, 9370. If I were to buy a new truck to tow with, I would be considering looking at the ones rated to pull the most.

Tow ratings mean almost nothing. The payload limit is what really matters. You will almost always hit the payload limit before you hit the tow limit. So few people understand this.

So so this

I own a tundra but if I was replacing it the current version I wouldn’t even look at. So so so far behind the times
