Fishing Boats Off Of Duluth Harbor

From time to time I check out the Duluth Harbor Cams. I often see small fishin boats trolling back and forth off the harbor entrance. Can anyone tell me what they are fishing for, just curious?

Coho salmon are the primary target at this time of the year around Duluth. Lake Superior Coho are small, tiny compared to anywhere else. Especially in spring. However, it's acceptable because a Superior Coho is about the best tasting fish in the world. Way better than a larger Lake Michigan caught fish.

As Finbender said Coho / Silver salmon are the most aggressive takers and by far the best eating salmon bar none. I would say that most folks this time of year and there are plenty of boats out from Duluth, MN to Ashland WI are fishing for anything that will bite. It is a magical time of year if you can stand the elements some days. With the early spring water temps Trout and Salmon are all in the top layers, so its is pretty much a near surface bit and it could be anything from aggressive Coho, Browns, Steelhead, Lake Trout, Splake. You could even catch Brook trout and Atlantic salmon. Heck we have even caught walleye's. You just never know what you might catch this time of year. Everything on top so no real need for down riggers. Long lines, Planer boards, and in some conditions you can just cast a little Cleo or Kastmaster.

2-4 pounds. Sometimes smaller.

Pretty much the same size we get in southern Lake Michigan
