Next, I would ask you, how remote and large is this lake? If you are hard pressed to come in contact with others typically and the lake is large.....I would move on and find another location....I can't imagine it would be difficult finding fish somewhere else on a remote lake that is a good walleye lake in Canada! I'm in the group that thinks, move on and find a different location, where you can have your own remote location and remote feel yourself....if you absolutely have to fish this location, then as someone previously stated....if you can hear conversation from the other boat, you are too close! Lastly, it would also matter to me, whether they are anchored or not, on my overall decision on what to do next.....either way, do you really want to be near others while fishing a remote lake in Canada anyway? |

It's a different world. There are people everywhere and it will only get worse. As long as they don't bump into me and wave when I wave, I don't care how close people get. They are just some slimy little fish, nothing to get worked up about.

i cant believe so many guys would get upset if a boat came within 200 yards of where they are fishing. 200 yards is out of sound range. What's the big deal about being 2 miles away or 200 yards away? heck at 200 yards you can't even see to tell if there fishing or not. get a life guys and be willing to share the great outdoors. there is no way you could even tell if they yelled at you to move. if I was jigging and casting for eyes it wouldn't bother me if someone gave me 200 feet it's more than I'm used to.
I have had boats on Erie get way closer than 200 feet trolling. I had a charter boat almost run us down last year. he was on my left side so I was a little complacent about watching him as I had the right of way. he was supposed to have given way and let me through as he was on my left. I looked up just in time to turn my boat to my left. I missed him but didn't miss his board. the tow line caught our outdrive but we had shut down to bring our lines in. but not the charter he kept moving. he started yelling and I yelled back that we had the right of way and they shut up. my son got his board and steel line loose and sent it on its way. a very short time went by and we noticed water on the floor. we were taking on water fast. the pump was running wide open and was dipping and still losing ground. my 1st thought was his board had knocked a hole in the bottom. then reality set in, it had to be the plug got pulled out with his low line. i keep a spare in my boat and my son put it in and saved the day. |

Me and my son got snagged twice by boats while shore fishing pike.
This was on a Devils Lake. It was the only boat for miles and we were the only shorefishermaen. People suck these days, half of them don't even wave back. |

There are places all over that get very crowded especially on weekends. If you are forced to be in those situations you have to expect bad manners and worse. If you are near a large population center it is a way of life. I lived on the Fox Chain for 27 + years. I fished early, on weekdays and during bad weather to evade some of the worst crowds. Even worked strange hours to avoid the craziness. I enjoyed all those years and did pretty well fishing. You can't expect a serene experience, but can still enjoy fishing. I also started doing remote fly ins twice a year for a real remote experience. Not all people are nice and considerate. Don't let them spoil your day. JMO Bob

The bottom line is if you have to ask here or if you even think about going in on someone it is probably too close.
So if your in that situation you are likely part of the problem. Last edited by Juls; 09-23-2021 at 01:38 AM. |

Just like when someone thinks he is in 5-6 foot waves when really they are only 3’s, I wonder how many boaters are accurate in guessing distances on the water. Personally I suspect many think the distance is much closer than it is. We should all carry those laser measuring tools. That would send a message lol!

i mean come on now we only cast maybe 150' let alone 200 yards. I wouldn't even notice a boat that far away. how much water do you need to fish?

Fishing Tip
Go where the fish are and the fishermen ain't.

I guess I'm the odd one. If I was the person in that boat in the bay you drove to, I would hope you would come on over and say hi. I would certainly invite you to fish right next to me if you wished.
I've caught lots of fish, but making a new friend never gets old. Plenty of fish to be caught, and I'm happy for you if your the one catching them. |
