Could a moderator please interject here and explain how this thread has survived this long? Just curious as to the rationale of letting it continue.
And to misrepresent other people and situations just so they can manufacture outrage.
Gerry
Like portraying someone like they were a star Sunday School student rather than a common criminal?
Ya think they are the only ones dying at the hands of police? How about this?
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/30/us/minneapolis-police-noor-verdict.html I'm sure you can find many other if you searched.
So the problem is worse than we originally though !? |
Again you are side stepping sir. Facts are great! Love em! (Tho you did just refer to them, rather than supply any) But your facts have nothing to do with black men dying at the hands of cops, for minor violations. Guilty people apprehended by Leo should not be going down for the dirt nap once apprehended, either. Should they?
Or for no violation whatsoever, e.g. a black boy playing in a park: https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/12/28/461293703/grand-jury-declines-to-indict-police-officers-in-tamir-rice-investigation
Ya think they are the only ones dying at the hands of police? How about this? https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/30/us/minneapolis-police-noor-verdict.html I'm sure you can find many other if you searched.
Uh-huh, and they're virtually all tragedies that shouldn't have occurred, to be sure. But you can also readily find evidence that it happens to blacks disproportionately: https://www.statista.com/chart/21857/people-killed-in-police-shootings-in-the-us/ Blacks in America - and non-blacks who recognize and care what they're going through - have much more than sufficient cause to protest their being wrongfully searched, arrested, beaten and killed by law enforcement, and they have the legal right to protest such abuse, as well. Seems just a bit more important than what posture someone adopts while the national anthem is being played before a recreational event. Gerry |

My 2cts before this thread gets nuked. To those who refuse to stand on the sidelines or stands for approx 2.5 minutes looking at the flag to give it respect it deserves during the National Anthem, you sure are not going to get my respect, time or money. If you have issues with perceived injustices, then get on your soapbox before or after the event. It's too bad many people consider you as a Hero to be emulated. You don't deserve to look a veteran in the eye, you should be ashamed to look at the Flag Covered caskets at any National Cemetery while Taps are being played.
Go ahead and complain, while you hide behind the U.S. Constitution, it's Amendments and the Bill Of Rights. 2.5 Minutes!.... If this doesn't stir your emotion's nothing will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_lCmBvYMRs

It would be nice to start with this-give each other the benefit of the doubt that we are all the good guys.
With rare exceptions, none of us know each other personally, so we really shouldn't read into a post. You may not agree with my position on black lives matter, but the logical conclusion isn't "emma17 doesn't care about racial injustice as much as I do". That can't be the way we think. Right, Black Lives Matter isn't about blacks men killing black men in the city. We know it'a about the injustice that black men and women experience in this country. It's wrong that it still exists. It's wrong what happened to George Floyd and it's wrong when blacks are pulled over for no good reason. As much as I'd like to keep injustice issues separate from the other issues facing black America, I find it nearly impossible. It's about prioritizing the solutions. Can we really argue the idea that many, many more black lives would be saved if we all paid a whole lot more attention to what's going on in the inner cities? Isn't there some logic to the idea that black professional sports figures could have a much greater impact on the well-being of black America if they did publicly demonstrate against gang violence? Can't we work on both issues at once? Social Injustice and Encouraging Young Black Men to take greater responsibility for their actions? If you don't think the latter isn't impacting the former, you're missing the boat. When people are willing to take responsibility for their own actions, it's much more effective to bring others to the cause. |
