Default Sealine LC5 clicks on reel in ?

I have other level winds that do not have a light click when you reel them in but the Diawa LC5’s (cabelas version of the Sealine) do.

Is there a way to shut it off, and why did they do that.... is it a Diawa thing ?

My Tekota doesn’t do that. I find it irritating to hear a click on retrieve with a smooth reel.

One post I found said it may be the grease on the anti-reverse paw dried up so I should tear the new real apart to lube it...

Um, that doesn’t sound like something I want to do on a brand new reel.

There should be a silver button on the side that slides to turn the clicker off. While I don't have the LC5, I have other Diawa's and they all have this button to turn it off. It works great as a "fish alert" when you are using planer boards, but I agree that I don't want it on when cranking in a fish!

I have a few of them and yes you can turn the clicker off. I have attached a picture. Slide the little button the opposite position it is in currently. It slides up and down to turn it off and on. The only difference between the LC5 (Cabelas) and the regular diawa version is 1 or 2 bearings. Otherwise it is exactly the same. Oh and its blue.

Just for clarity - I did shut the clicker off, but you can still hear a very quiet click from the anti-reverse paw.

This is the first time I have ever heard a level wind make any noise when reeling in (and not having the clicker on).

I checked a second one (I bought 4 each) to see if it was a defect, and the second one has that same “light clicking” noise as you reel it in...

I decided to go to Tekota’s and return these, I like my reel in to be quiet and smooth... so time to drop some extra coin I guess.

The Sealine LCA, LC3 and LC5 have all always had the little click. It's Daiwa's anti-reverse system. No way to turn it off and taking off that piece will have you reeling both forwards and backwards. Why they don't put in a anti reverse bearing like their other reels has always baffled me.

If you like Daiwa reels, look at the Lexa LC. Three models (100, 300 & 400) will cover all sorts of applications. Plus they will be much lighter and easier to palm than a Tekota.
