What is YOUR Special Fishing Technique?
Not what you read or someone said. You personally feel from experience, this is your go to technique. For me, it’s trolling Walleye and Salmon/Steelhead. Bottom Bouncer/Walleye and Dipsey/Downrigger Salmon and Steelhead.
Far from an expert but these are what I do best. How about you??? |

Since moving up here and fishing for trout and salmon on Lake Huron with Dipseys and spoons, I've taken that technique inland to fish some of the deeper lakes for walleye, pike, splake and even BIG smallies. Being able to dial in lure depth that accurately has made a big difference. And trolling up 4-5# smallies from 50-60' down is a blast!

Snap or rip jigging structure and cover. Blades on breaks when the water is below 60. They're what I start with and what I have the most confidence in for producing bites.

Pitching to shallow structure with jigs, plastics Crankbaits and Bladebaits, next would be dragging jigs, then onto trolling.

I love pitching plastics to shallow fish. 2-8 ft Walleyes and smallies are tops on my list but early in the year big plastics and cranks for big pike is a blast too. I have a jig rod that I built for 1/16 to 1/8 oz jigs that is just a dream to fish with. Super light and very sensitive. I also get huge enjoyment out of fishing the same way out of my kayak. Just a ton of fun.

I used to love setting up a good drift with a live bait rig. But it's been a long time since I did much fishing, and I'm planning to greatly expand my repertoire now that I'll have my own boat (and a very capable boat, at that) and am getting back into fishing with a vengeance. We'll see whether/how quickly I develop a NEW favorite.
