Default What stickbaits are best for slow trolling?

Do any stickbaits have "decent" action at very slow trolling speeds (0.5 - 0.75 mph)? Flat raps? Thudersticks? Thanks - Joe

Pretty simple to tell.
Take a bunch of suspect baits and go over to the neighborhood Y where there is a swimming pool and find a time where the pool is going to be empty.

Work with management to let you test some baits in the pool when it is unoccupied. With a good lighted pool, it will be very easy to cast your bait out and test its action with different retrieve speeds.

Good winter project.

First of all I am NOT an expert. But over the last two weeks I have read every article that can be googled on the use of 3 way rigs as it is something I want to try on our Canada trip next year when things slow a bit. (we always jig). When trolling a crank on a 3 way rig, all the articles say to use stick baits or lipless cranks. The 3 that appear in articles over and over again are the Rapala Original Floater, the Rapala Flat Rap and the Storm Thunderstick. I also see the Rapala Husky Jerk and Smithwick Rattlin Rogue mentioned although not as much as the first 3. Just passing along what I have read over and over.

Like the Flat Raps also - I'd probably have more if they weren't double the cost of a HJ.

Flat raps are the ultimate slow troll lure(wish they had a better color selection). Husky jerks are tried and proven along with the original floater. Bomber long A's have an awsome wide swimming action and very loud rattles that can be deadly during those windy nights.

Default Trollin

huskey jerk shallow and deep diver are what ur lookin for, action at all speeds. iam sure u know its a suspending bait, trolling with in line boards is deadly with these baits with the stop and go action of waves or turns, great slow speed crank bait.

I don't think that I have any better luck with all my baits put together that I have had with Storm Thunderstick Jrs and the orignal floating Rapalas, not the deep divers. YMMV

The "Ripski" is a great walleye catcher and priced right too.
