It appears to me the Trophy 165 is same as the discontinued Dominator 165 with a new trim level and an upgrade to the 2XB Hull (if I’m wrong I’m sure there are plenty of folks on here who will correct me). That being said I have a 2012 Dominator 165 Sport so I thought I’d add my 2 cents.
Based on your comment about the price I realize the Trophy is more money, but I also think you are getting more boat with the Trophy, specifically the wider beam and 2XB Hull. If the cost difference is not the deciding factor I would base my final decision on the interior layout and the primary differences between the two like the wider gunwales and jump seats in the Trophy vs the narrow gunwales and flip-up seats/casting deck of the Competitor. I prefer the wide gunwales and I love the jump seats. I’ve never liked the flip-up seats that convert to a casting platform, but that’s just me. I have my Dominator rigged with a Yamaha F90 and F9.9 kicker and I can tell you I love it. The wide beam makes a big difference and it feels and fishes like a much bigger boat than a 16 footer. If you plan on adding a kicker in the future I recommend asking others on this board how the Competitor handles the added weight because I suspect the Trophy would be better suited in that regard. I think you will be happy with either boat if you go with the layout that suites you and your fishing preferences. Good luck. |

The Competitor also has the 2XB hull.

In a 16footer I would want the jump seats, the flip up deck takes up too much room, heck it took too much room up in my 1850 sportfish and like others many remove it. It is rly handy when taking 3 or more out and not having to lug extra seats that take up room, only you can decide that. For me the 2k for the trophy would be a no brainer, just for the 2 jump seats and the wider gunnels, makes mounting tracks etc so much easier and nicer, and looks much nicer fit and finish wise by the pics. they are both rly nice boats and you will be happy with either of them, you can get the competitor without the flip seat in back too I beleive
