Default Mono or Fluoro

Heading to Canada in June and was wondering what is the preferred line for walleye. I use spinning reels. Probably do a lot of jigging and some trolling of shad raps. Probably also troll some spinners with leeches. What line do you prefer?

Personally either braid with a 6’ fluorocarbon leader or mono. Jigging definitely braid and fluorocarbon leader

All that I have ever used for walleye fishing in Canada is 8 lb mono.

Catch plenty of fish, have no issues with knots, tangles or wind knots.

Use the same thing when small mouth bass fishing.

Even if using braid and want a leader, I will use mono for leader.

I have never found Floro to help me catch more fish and in fact, due to knot failure has caused me to lose some nice fish. So, no more Floro for myself, since I don't catch any more fish using mono compared to floro.

If I am deep water jigging and need the non stretch, then I will likely go with a braid. But, if so, I tie the jig or the crank bait directly to the braid. Again, just don't see the need for a leader.

10lb Braid with a 5-6' Flouro leader works great.

I cant think of a proven reason to use Floro in the Tea/coffee colored waters of Canada.

Whats the point?
floro does/can break easier,
harder to make good knots,
stiffer,
costs more,
Likely will not improve catch rates,
more memory,

I have to find a good floro that's worth the time and expense.

So you think all Canadian waters are stained. Not so.

Honker,
I see that you like to use braid with a floro leader.

Do you have a fish catching reason to use a floro leader - rather than mono.

You are not just using floro, because of advertising are you?

If you use 8 lb mono, or if you use 8 lb floro - what do you get out of fishing by the use of the same test line, except in a floro configuration.

Floro stretches about the same as mono.

Floro, seems to abrade at about the same rate as mono.

The one thing that floro does better than mono and that is that it sinks better than mono.
If the better sinking rate of floro, the reason that you pay the extra money for floro over mono to use as a leader?

Just curious.

REW, You broke out the sandpaper again! It is valid if someone is rubbing sandpaper against your line. Thicker line is the only defense for that. No matter what it is made of. Real world abrasion (rocks and wood) and Fluoro is tougher.

No, I never said 'all' Canadian waters are stained.

Read it again with an open mind.
