When I used to fish the Detroit River and Erie in the fall, until water temps got below 40 degrees. After that, game over, the feedbags are off and season over.

Usually opening of gun deer season is the end. The Saturday before thanksgiving. By the end of deer season there is usually someplace to start ice fishing. In my younger days I would break ice to launch the boat.

I take January off. Thatís it. Long as I can find open water, dry roads, and temperatures above 32 degrees. That usually means no fishing in January.

Depends on the year, but I usually miss a couple months. November is filled with hunting, and January is generally too cold.

Most years I get down to Redwing in December and February, sometimes even Lake Superior in February, but usually March there.

I love ice fishing, but love being in a boat even more

Headed to Lake of the Woods in t-minus 13 days. Can't come soon enough!
