Muskyed
Could you give me the actual name of that product at Menards. Didn't make it up to my plastics supplier today but figure UHMW-PE would be way north of $75.

Just went out to my shop to take a look. Looks like I misspoke, I have 3/8" in white, not 1/2", Sorry. But it was about $75 then, 4 years ago. If you just order one sheet, there was a shipping charge then, but I ordered 3, so they shipped to store for free. At $150 for 1/2", not sure if it's much of a cost advantage, unless you are doing many trailers. Makes a fantastic top layer for work shop counter tops though.

There is nothing wrong with carpet. I have 15 years on mine and many, many miles of trailering. The carpet looks good, and hasn’t been replaced. The paint on the bottom of my boat in contact with the carpet is near perfect. If I had to replace, I would replace with carpet. The stock stringers on my trailer are wood. If I had to replace, I would use wood. Wood + Carpet is gentle on the boat and long lasting.

There is nothing wrong with carpet. It’s just easier in some situations (for me at least) to have a bunk material with less friction to make winching my boat back on the trailer easier. If I could float my boat on every time, carpet would be fine. And I am not partial to rollers.

I put these on last spring and my boat has a painted hull and so far no scratches that I can see.
They did make a difference winching the boat onto the trailer, if thinking about these replace the screws that came with them for better ones and pre-drill the holes first. 2 of Caliber Marine Slides Trailer Bunk Pads, Black, 15 x 3-Inch Fisherman 1792 |

Agree with Marty and Bobby with a painted aluminum hull I would be afraid of paint damage from any kind of hard material. Carpet is easy to replace when needed.

I have decided to go with either UHMW-PE or the Menards HDPE Muskyed referred to. I retired from the Brewing industry and they used UHMW-PE to line the side walls of can conveyors. If they can transport an ink printed beer can without scratching, I don't think it would harm the painted bottom of my boat. Now cost might be another thing.
