Find a boat you like. Pro v type boat sounds right for you. All the manufacturer’s make a similar layout, just different tweaks. Your big decision is glass or aluminum.
My only piece of advice is make sure it has A Yamaha or Suzuki on the back. You’ll never need the warranty.

I am partial to the Lund pro v, only complaint is the trailer. Regardless of boat choice, I would get an aluminum or galvanized trailer.

Tough choices for sure
Maybe go on a ride in a few different boats? Nitro zv-19 sure is a sweet ride but I’ve never been in one. Warriors fit and finish seems top notch but a lot of their layouts aren’t very faster friendly. Love the thin gunnels of the impact but lund is highly over rated.

I wanted a boat that trailered easy and I could launch and load myself. I started looking, online at first and then store shopping. By the time I got around to buying I knew all I needed to know about what I wanted in a boat. By the questions you asked, I can easily tell you have through this through as well. To address your questions; 1 - Money is always a concern for most of us so you want the most for your bucks. The cost of a boat has little to do with the boat's features and quality but more with dealer markups. 2- Over 23 I would go fiberglass, it is heavier but it isn't magic on the ride. A well designed aluminum hull will do just as well and isn't going to get sun-faded or transom rot. 3- Welded with a good, well designed sub-structure. I've had the pop riveted Starcrafts, they were OK, a bit light and rough riders. 4- The boat I bought has vinal flooring. It isn't slippery at all and easy to wash down. 4a- Definitely a four stroke, fuel injected, hands down. The 18 foot aluminum boat I bought has a Merc 150 four stroke (top speed equipped including wife is mid forties) and came with a stainless prop. Research the engine, it is basically bulletproof and that is why I have it. 5- After a winter of research I went this route. Lowrance Carbon, Motorguide 24 volt Xi5 with NEMA gateway, Lowrance PinPoint, Lowrance Outboard auto pilot, and a Merc 15HP Pro Kicker. The Carbon can autopilot either the outboards or the Xi5 trolling motor. They all work well and play well together. After using the boat for all most three seasons, I would not change anything. 6- Back to the boat and brands. I looked at them all and when it was over, a Tracker Targa 18V was in my driveway. Awesome boat, comes complete except for personal safety equipment and my choice of electronics. Why the Targa was 20 or more thousands less than competitors is beyond me. Likely a lot of dealer mark-up. I went with the 15HP Kicker because it was fuel injected and had a 15 amp altenator and was only $500 more than the 9.9 kicker. You can find plenty of complaints on the Internet about all boat brands including Tracker. When I started looking hard, most issues with the Tracker as well as other brands were due to being underpowered, and pour dealer service issues. I'm fortunate to have the Auburn Hills Tracker boat center, those folks are good, no BS with them. Good luck on your choice and happy fishing. |

If you are buying a boat for walleye fishing and plan to fish big water for walleye, do yourself and your body a huge favor and factor in purchasing excellent top quality hydraulic spring suspension seats with at least 5 inches of movement.
The excellent full suspension seats will take care of your back and body in the worst of the weather conditions that you may ever encounter. Take care |

I have been running an aluminum 1900 Pro-v for the last 10 years but here’s my suggestion based on the water you want to fish.
1. Buy used if you’re smart, patient, and minimally handy. You’ll get far more bang for your buck. I can’t over stress being patient. 2. Use the savings to step up to a 20 or 21’ hull 5-10 years of age. 3. Stick with a premium brand. If it were me I’d give Skeeter, Ranger, Yarcraft and Lund the inside track. Don’t look at economy brands. 4. Four stroke all the way and at minimum the motor should be 75% of the hull’s max rating. Son in law just bought a new Ranger 1880 with a 200 Merc Pro Sx. Very nice boat but IMHO, way way overpriced. It’s a sellers market for new boats right now but in 2-3 months it will be a buyers market for used boats. If you buy used get a test drive and have motor checked out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just sold my Lund 20FT Alaskan great boat for many reasons, I could Not handle the ride in any small waves the difference between almost any popular Aluminum boat & Fiberglass is enormous to me.
On a day that would beat me up good in any 20FT Aluminum boat I tested 3 20FT glass boats Ranger, Lund & Scout. They all ran much better than any Aluminum boat in this size class. The Lund had an Excellent fishing & water sports design model was 208 GL Tyee a very well balanced boat stable good handling very nice ride powered by a 300 Verado it topped out around 55 MPH with 3 people. Nice rear live well with jump seats on each side hardware was cheap looking plastic to much carpet covers front & back raised decks zero carpet would be best. No swim platform. Ranger was very similar to Lund smaller motor 250 Pro XS same Top speed better hardware, but way to much carpet again, no swim platform, not as stable at rest slapping water more & ride was not as good as Lund. Scout no carpet nice stainless hardware, swim platform, slightly better ride than Lund smallest motor 200 Optimax less maintenance but more noise, messy oil tank needs to be filled regularly, top speed for fishing 53 MPH, live well not centered when filled changes balance, swept back windshield would prefer more up right like Lund & Ranger. Fit & finish all were about average no surprise, expect to work out screw ups typical of large production boats. if you want high quality you pay dearly in a true custom built boat not even sure any are being made in this type of boat away.

I must be the only guy who loves carpet. I’m not sure I’d get a boat without it. If you clean it when you’re done fishing it’s fine.
I have it narrowed down to 4 boats in my search. But I’ve had plenty of boats and know what I want more or less. If you’re handy, a guy is probably better off to rig the boat himself. You’ll probably save $1000’s. The price the dealers charge just to buy the electronics is insane. |
