The Sullivan is doing well now for eyes and the wing dam tips with cranks. Drop me a PM if you want some detailed info.

Original Floating Rapalas in number 7 and 9's, usually. Sometimes the larger Rapalas work for bigger fish too. Colors depend on water clarity and weather conditions....ie: sunny/cloudy? Experiement...it's fun. Good luck! Juls

Sounds like a lot of water in the system down that way. Lots of weeds and grass floating around to. Try trolling back water areas. If you can find rocks or gravel in the back waters even better yet.

its about 6ft higher than normal. and its only slowly going down. it will probably be 4-5ft above normal on the 5th. so i agree. they will be up in the shallows escaping the ragin flow. they will also hold tight on the back end of the wingdams.

The most important thing if you are going in blind, is to open your eyes, and use your common sense. Simply put, think like a fish. Figure out where the food for the fish will be. Figure out how the food for the fish will be acting and emulate that action and you will catch plenty of fish. Take care REW |

Would removing the front treble hook in these conditions be a good idea due to the amount of weeds and other items floating? Im finding in the river that I just started trolling in their are many leaves and if I remove the front treble it helps quite a bit. And yes the Mississippi is raging right now. I talked to few commerical fisherman a few years back when it was high and they had some pig walleyes in there nets. They had to put the nets in the entrance of the sloughs due to the current.

Never forget the first time I launched on the mighty Mississippi. Water was quite high at that point, and even being used to fishing rivers this Pennsylvania boy hadn't experienced anything like that. It took me a couple days to just get that feeling in my backside to subside, and wing dams, they were a new experience . But if it's high, find the backwater. We used 3 way rigs almost exclusively, trying to fish vertically as best as possible. It will definitely take some getting used to. We found some fish and did pretty well, but it was definitely different.

Just finished up an event on pool 3 & 4. We had lots of debris. Felt like we were following a hay wagon all day. Running three-ways helped keep the lures running clean. Still had to clean main line and dropped often. We fished a 1/16th oz jig with a large hook and wire keeper rigged with a ring worm. Dropper had to be about 4 oz.
