And I believe the typical transom saver also transfers stress to the transom from the trailer.

I use the wedge and find it simple and easy. My boat is 5 years old, has a lifetime hull warranty, a 6" jackplate, and no gelcoat cracks anywhere. Knock on wood.

So at this point I will not be connecting my heavy boat to something lighter (the trailer) that flexes.

Merv,
You won't scratch any paint if you don't install a transom saver.

Or...if it's an E-Tec you use the built in lever - no transom saver needed.

Just sayin'...

I am liking the 3m film idea, there are a couple of other places I was thinking of using that stuff anyway. So if there are a few scraps left over I could put them to good use. The m-ywedge device is interesting as well. It looks to me that it would make your motor and transom more like one solid unit that wouldn't torque, but rather move more vertically in unison. But I have never seen one in action, so I can't really say for sure. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Now I am really confused! I believe the transom saver takes a lot of stress off the transom, but I would like something different. I like the idea of the wedge, so hopefully more people will put some input into this.

Ordered the M-ywedge yesterday. From what I can tell by the feedback around the web it's been great for those who have used it.

Worrying about worn paint on motor, if you're really serious, keep boat in garage and enjoy fishing on tv.

I'm not really worried about it, I just like to keep my things in as good of shape as possible for as long as possible.
