Default Illinois Walleye Trail-4th Qualifier and Championship

Due to the most recent floods and the postponement of the
4th qualifer the IWT will be combining the final two events of the 2012-13 season.

Saturday, May 18th will conclude the regular season and
double as Day 1 one of the 2-Day Championship. So your
day 1 weight will count for points toward the 4th qualifier and day 1 of the championship. In other words the winner of Saturday's event will receive 200 points for 1st place and 200 points for Day 1 one of the championship event. We will conclude the season on Sunday the 19th and award the IWT "Team of the Year" and the winners of the championship.

Registration will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Barto Landing on
Friday, May 17th. A late fee will be added for any entries
received the morning of the event. We encourage you to
mail in your entries or sign-up in advance.

Entry forms are available at:
http://www.ilwalleyetrail.com/registrationrules.html

Following the weigh-in on Saturday there will be food and
refreshments for all the anglers who participate. Please
let me know for food purposes if you plan on fishing.

Entry fee will be as follows:
4th Qualifer-$200 plus $10 for optional bigfish pot.
2-day State Championship-$200 plus $20 for optional big fish pot. We will award big fish for both days.

In addition, there will also be $500 awarded to the highest
finishing "Lund Boats Team in the Money". As well as $2,500 awarded to the "Lund Boats Team of the Year"!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to many of you in the Illinois Valley that were affected by this extreme flood. We hope that everyone is doing well and made it through these difficult times safely.

We hope to see many of you there and look forward to getting back on the water!

Thanks,
Adam Sandor

If you plan on fishing and have not contacted me yet, please do so. There will be food and refreshments following Saturday's weigh-in. In addition, we will also release next years schedule on Saturday and go over some exciting new changes for the upcoming 2013-14 season. We have some exciting things in store for next year. Good Afternoon,

Well, the 2012-13 IWT season is finally in the books and we ended the season on a good note. The weather and water was in great shape for both days and there were some very repsectable fish caught in both events. However the sauger still seem to be void from the system, but some very nice walleyes were caught in place of them.

On Satuday May 18th, the IWT hosted the 4th and final Qualifier of the season from Barto Landing in Spring Valley, Il. A total of twelve teams participated in the event weighing seventeen fish for a total weight of 24.66 pounds and average of 1.45 pounds per fish. All of the fish were alive and released back to the river. Saturday's event was a rescheduled event from April that was cancelled due to flooding. So, the anglers weight from day one doubled as their weight for the 4th Qualifier as well as Day 1 of 2-Day State Tournament.

The winning team of John Dalzot and Joe Perez brought the only six fish limit to the scales weighing 8.74lbs. earning them $1,075.00. John and Joe were also the highest finishing Lund Boats team in the money, earning an additional $500 in contingency cash! Congratulations! Their winning tactic was pulling live bait on three-way rigs upstream in 8-10 feet of water.

2nd Place- Mark Mazur and Dave Hall 2/4.63lbs. $645 also Big fish of the event 3.66 walleye $120
3rd Place- Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr. 2/2.44lbs. $200 $100 Hennepin Marine Gift Certificate
4th Place- Gary Merkel and Jeff Marusich 2/2.13lbs. Doc's Custom Jigs Bonus

Day two of the State Championship brought much of the same weather and water conditions as day one. So the anglers had their work cut out for them if they were going to top the team of Dalzot and Perez. With the nearest team over 4lbs. behind the leader it appeared as if Saturday's winners had the State tourney in the bag! However, to much our surprise Sunday made for some exciting changes in the leaderboard.

Since the sauger have been hard to come by as of late a couple of teams decided to swing for the fence and fish exclusively for walleyes. For most of you who know this is not always an easy task on the Illinois River, but two teams managed to connect with some awesome fish.

The winning team of Mark Mazur and Dave Hall were one of the teams who decided to spend their entire day looking for that homerun catch of walleye and they did just that. The winning duo landed 4 walleyes for a weight of 15.04lbs. and a total weight of 19.67lbs. securing the win by nearly seven pounds! Which earned them $1,010 for first place and an additional $110 for big fish a 5.23lb. walleye! Congratulations Guys!!

2nd Place- Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr 6/12.82lbs. $550 & $500 Lund Boats Contingency
3rd Place- John Dalzot and Joe Perez 7/10.07lbs. $200 $100 Hennepin Marine Gift Certificate
4th Place- Gary Merkel and Jeff Marusich 4/4.63lbs. Doc's Custom Jigs Bonus

For the second straight season the Father and Son team of Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr. are this years IWT Lund Boats Team of the Year! Tom and Tom cashed a check in every event and never finished below fourth the entire season. Congratulations to both of you for a great year!! They earned $444 from the IWT Angler of the Year fund in addition to $2,500 courtesy of Lund Boats and Hennepin Marine!!

Well, this season is a wrap and it has been fun! We have a lot of new and excited changes in store for the upcoming season. We hope to see many of you on the water in the coming months and enjoy your summer! A new schedule and changes have already been set and will be coming to you soon!

As always please support our sponsors who make the IWT possible. We truly appreciate all of their support and look forward to representing them in years to come!

Thank you! Hennepin Marine, Lund Boats, Mercury Marine, Worldwide Marine Insurance, Woodstock Line
Doc's Custom Jigs and Stabil Mount
