Default 2000 Merc, 150 EFI

A friend is looking at a boat with a 2000 Merc 150 EFI. Looks very clean and owner performed regular maintenance. Is there any reason not to buy it? Is there anything we should look for? Thanks.

Default 150 efi

I have a 150 EFI that is a 1997 and it has been a very good motor. I am always surprised when I lift the Cover how clean it is. I'm used to oily messes in the 25 hp merc. My motor came with spark plugs that don't have the L electrode to spark to. It is a flat plug which has worked well for me. Anyways the 1997 150 Efi is a good motor.

The 2.5L V6 EFI or Carb mercs are very good engines. They have been around forever. I run one and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I run a '94 Merc 175 xri (EFI 2.5L) and it's been a fantastic motor. Like already stated, the 2.5L efi motors have the "bulletproof" status overall.
