Default 2009 200hp Yamaha HPDI Reviews

I'm looking at buying a 2009 200hp Yamaha HPDI motor. Wondering whether anyone has any experience with the motor? Pro's / Con's vs. going with a 4 stroke. (Merc. Verado etc.)

That would be a nice combo, 50 mph i would guess. Had an 200 evinrude on my 04 and that performed well. Have 200 hpdi now and love it.
run ring free in the gas and try to buy 89 octane gas and it will be trouble free.

I will run 90 -91 octane in my 200, I do get 56 mph on GPS in a skeeter 1880.

Those 1880's are rockets, my 1900 does 52 on a very good day, mostly 50-51, thats the only thing they screwed up with the 1900 was the speed. still fast enough most days

I have a 2009 Yamaha 200 hpdi on my skeeter 1880 and love it. As a matter of fact it has been so good to me that I was just looking at a Nitro ZV21 with a 300 Pro Verado and have some huge concerns about running it because of how awesome my 200 is. Its good on oil and great on fuel. Wide open it gets around 3.8mpgs and cruzing I am at 5mpg's.

It is a rocket on my boat and every day out I can get 59 mph and it has run a best of 61.3 mph.

Go for it, you'll love the motor. Just have a leak down and compression test done if its used, if new do the break-in per the manual and then enjoy.

There is a ton of information on the Yamaha HPDI motors on the Hull Truth web site. A search will bring up hundreds of posts. The 150 and the 200 are allegedly fine, anything above that is real trouble.
I would make the deal contingent on a complete mechanical inspection of the motor.
Good luck
